Diagrams must be labelled.S4Include more keywords in your answers. (Use your book or internet to help you)S5Give full details when explaining and describing, including scientific knowledge.S6Revise the work covered in class on a weekly basisDaily work in scienceTeachers will grade certain pieces of classwork, homework and practical assignments and will set your targets for improvement. Practical and investigative skillsWill be assessed on will be planning and carrying out experiments, recording and analysing information, both written investigations and exam style assessments may be used. The grade descriptors are as follows:A*Exceptional work with virtually no errors showing excellent knowledge and understandingAExcellent work- the student has attempted the higher level questions/skills but may not have succeeded completelyBGood performance but higher level work/skills not attemptedCThe student’s work shows an understanding of the basic concepts and skills.DThe student’s work shows some understanding but work is incompleteKnowledge, understanding and applicationEvery term you will do some shorter tests and a longer exam of all the work you have studied that term, it will compose of multi choice and longer answer questions. It is important to revise well. The tests and exams also include questions on practical work and there will be some tests on practical work only.In year 10 there is an end of year exam on all the work you have covered during the year.In year 11 there is a mock exam in January on all the work covered in year 10 and 11. Your teachers use the mark from this exam to predict how well you will do in the final IGCSE exams in May of year 11. This predicted grade is sent to your parents and the examining board. In year 11 the final grade for the year is the grade you obtain in the IGCSE exams. The grade boundaries for internal exams can change slightly depending on the exam but a rough guide is as follows:A*-85%; A-70%; B-60%; C-50%; D-40%.Attitudes and ApproachesThe attitudes and approaches to learning criteria for Science outline our expectations of you.
