DESCRIPTION:

The Contractor shall furnish and install feeder cable duct system in accordance with the Plans and Specifications and as directed by the Engineer.

MATERIALS:

Feeder cable duct system shall consist of a prefabricated assembly of conduit and cables. Conduit shall conform to the requirements of ASTM D1248.

Cable shall bear Underwriters Laboratories Label for USE. It shall consist of copper conductor, and

insulation constructed to conform to ICEA (Insulated Cable Engineers Association) Pub. No. S-66-

524 and NEMA Pub. No. WC-7 AThermoplastic - Insulated Wire and Cable for the Transmission and

Distribution of Electrical Energy@.

b. Cable shall consist of seven (7) copper strands up to and including #2 AWG and shall be constructed of 19 copper strands in larger sizes.

c.

Insulation shall be chemically cross linked (vulcanized) polyethylene insulating compound.

d. The cables shall use a color code system that will simplify the identification of the individual cables in the conduit. Specifically, one hot wires shall have solid black color coding, the other hot wire shall be black with red tracer and the neutral wire shall be black with white tracer. The Contractor shall submit a sample of the feeder cable mock up, showing the actual color of wire insulation that will be used, as a condition for approval.

BASIS OF ACCEPTANCE

Feeder cable duct system will be accepted upon the manufacturer=s certification that it meets the requirements of this specification, as well as being Underwriters Laboratory approved.

CONSTRUCTION DETAILS:

Sections 670-3.01, 670-3.12, 670-3.14, 670-3.15, 670-3.16 and 670-3.17 shall apply.

METHOD OF MEASUREMENT:

This item will be measured by the number of linear feet of conduit installed in accordance with the plans and specifications or as directed by the Engineer. The cable is paid for under this item; however, it shall not be used as a measure of payment.

BASIS OF PAYMENT:

Section 670-5.11, Single Conductor Cable and Direct Burial Cable, shall apply except that payment for excavation, backfill and restoration will be paid for under separate item(s).
