Justification for Order: The books that have been selected are mostly non-fiction in nature and support a curriculum focus as well as a potential school improvement issue. The focus for the book order is to support the instructional program of the incoming 6th grade class. Since sixth grade students come from various feeder elementary schools within the school system, the middle school cannot and does not take for granted that all of the students come into the building knowing the same things. Therefore, a focus has been to prepare and welcome new students to the middle school by working to improve and/or refine their skills in all subject areas. The books that are the focus of this order specifically support instruction in the areas of Math, Science and Social Studies. They have been selected according to the Georgia Performance Standards alignment. Bound to Stay Bound Books organized the titles as such. Because science is the weakest academic area in the school according to CRCT test scores, two books that are part of the science inventory have been ordered.
