In 4th grade, I will use a book from Symtalk by Maurice Hazan – Spanish Level 2. I will provide copies of ach unit to students during class time. I will use an interactive website call RockaLingua that contains different learning topics with a variety vocabulary, games, comic videos, grammar structure and common verbs used in Spanish. Students will review similar topics from 3rd grade, but some topics are going to be reteach in advance level of Spanish vocabulary words, comprehension, and writing. The syllabus describes what topics we will be working on each month. CKS has adopted a Foreign Language grade level standard for K – 8th grade. During Spanish class students will be grade in their level of participation, communication, connection (between English and Spanish basic concepts) comparison, and cultures (knowledge and understanding of Latin American culture). Students will be introduced to “Día de los Muertos”, “Navidad/ las posadas” and other cultural events throughout the school year. As a parent is important to help your child in the learning process of a new language at home. I will provide different links, interactive websites in Spanish that contains songs. Also, you can help your child to check out bilingual books from the library. Lesson plan – 4th gradeDuring our first couple weeks of class students will create their hopes, goals and rules for their Spanish class. Students will learn a prayer in Spanish (Ave Maria).September What is your name/ Como te llamas? This unit combines a general overview about greetings. This unit includes interactive songs, vocabulary, grammar comprehension and games that will make a fun beginning of school year. OctoberNumbers (0 – 1000), and shapes/ Números del 0 -1000 y las figuras geométricasStudents will review numbers from 0- 100 and will learn the next level of numbers up to 1000 in Spanish. During this month students will be introducing to a quick review and learning of basic shapes in Spanish. The purpose of this section is to involved students in learning basic geometry in Spanish. November Verbs, adjectives, and nouns/ Los verbos, adjetivos y sustantivos. During this month students will be introducing to the cultural aspect of “Day of death/ “El día de los Muertos” (cultural understanding). Students will review verbs, adjectives and nouns in Spanish in a deeper level of comprehension. Students will be able to recognize verbs, adjectives and nouns in Spanish. During this unit students will be given handout related to this topic. Students may find this unit a little difficult but will be review in next years. Students will work on “Día de los Muertos” activity as a way of learning a cultural piece from Latin American culture. December Christmas/ La Navidad en Latino América (Cultural understanding) This unit is related to the Holidays. Students will learn vocabulary words use during Christmas in Spanish. Students will be introduced to the meaning of a traditional events in Mexico called “las posadas” and “Navidad” in Latin America countries. Students will watch a video about how people celebrate Christmas in other countries. Students will listen to the story about “las posadas” and will learn “villancicos (typical Christmas songs)” from Peru. JanuaryParts of a sentences and recognizing pronouns/ Sujeto y predicado y Los pronombres personalesIn this unit students will learn how to recognize the two parts of a simple sentences in Spanish. In addition, students will learn about pronouns in Spanish that will help them in the next years to conjugate the verbs in different time and person. FebruaryFeelings/ Los sentimientosIn this unit students will learn the different kind of feelings in Spanish. This unit will enhance friendship in classroom by learning how to describe feelings to other people. Students will learn how to describe their own feelings. This unit contains writing, reading comprehension and grammar tips. March Descriptions/ Las descripcionesStudents will learn how to use adjectives and nouns to describe themselves or other people. Students will learn a song and will use their writing skills to complete simple sentences in Spanish. April What, where, when, how.etc/ Que, donde, cuando, como?Students will learn the grammatical aspect of asking questions in Spanish. Students will work on a handout for this unit that will review how and when to make questions in Spanish. May Building sentences using most common verbs in Spanish (“Mis primeros pasos” - Symtalk Level 2) During this month and the rest of June students will work on Units 1-8. Students will continue building sentences using verbs, adjective, nouns and pronouns learned. At the same time this book will help students to review their Spanish vocabulary that includes pets, friends, animals, fruits, colors, numbers and objects in Spanish. JuneReview During this month students will review all the vocabulary learn throughout the year.
