Class “Spelling Bee”
Students have been given a list of
words to study and prepare for a
classroom spelling bee next Friday. From the list, 20 words will be chosen to spell on a piece of lined paper. The top two scores will be our classroom representatives in the 5th Grade Spelling Bee on February 1st.

Part III
Driving your child back and forth to events is the perfect time to check on what has been going on in science. Ask your child (and their friends) to tell you
about the recent ocean current experiment.
Here are a few questions you could add to the
conversation:
➢ *What is the independent variable? (hot red water and cold blue water)
➢ *What is the dependent variable/results? (the cold water sank and the warm water rose to the top)
➢ *What are some of the control variables? (same amount of water, same size beakers, same container)
➢ *What was your hypothesis before the experiment and were you correct?
➢ *Finally, why is the Gulf Stream important to people living on the East Coast of the United States and in Europe? (The Gulf Stream brings warm water and warm air up North to moderate the climate so the winters are less cold.)
Help our school by sending in your Box Tops and Campbell’s labels.

5th Grade Holiday Party
Our winter party will be held on Dec. 21st at 11:00am. More information will be coming home the beginning of next week. We will be asking each child to contribute $5 to cover the cost of supplies and pizza. If your child would like to bring their own lunch that day, then they would just need to contribute $3.
Toys for Tots…
The first activity by our new SCA is to collect toys for families in need over the holiday. Students are asked to bring in a new, unwrapped toy to donate to this cause. The goal is to reach 120 toy donations, and I know we can surpass this goal.
Toys will be donated to the Toys for Tots program,
which is run by the U.S. Marine Corps. Toys will be
collected each morning at the front lobby or in the
gym. Thanks for helping out this Holiday Season.
