As your host, it is my pleasure to explore our community with you and demonstrate the quality of life that we all enjoy. The Fox Cities have received numerous quality of life rankings for housing, safety, outdoor activity, and a great place for kids.The weather during your visit looks like this:Thursday: sunny and 60 degreesFriday: 60% chance of rain, with a high of 56 degreesSaturday: 50% chance of rain in the morning as showers move out, high of 55 degreesSunday: no rain with a high of 56 degreesPlease dress accordingly, especially if we attend a Friday night football game as we discussed. Comfortable shoes are a must as we will be doing some walking as we learn about the Fox Cities.While I have put together this itinerary, these are your days. Feel free to make other suggestions. Spontaneity is a good thing. Should other things interest you we will make changes as necessary. As I write, some things have yet to be confirmed. And please ask your questions as we spend time together.Here we go!Thursday October 2212:53 p.m. Flight arrives.12:53- 1:20 p.m. Collect luggage, pick up rental car.1:45 p.m. Leave rental car at Cooper Leaf Hotel. 2:15 p.m. Visit Kimberly High School. School is not in session this Thursday and Friday, but the building is open and some personnel will be available to share information on sports and academics.3:00 p.m. Depart Kimberly High School. Tour neighborhoods in the Kimberly School District. Visit High Cliff State Park.4:30 p.m. Return to the Copperleaf Hotel, check in rest and relax.5:45 p.m. DinnerThere are several nice restaurants within walking distance of the hotel: Il Angolo Resto-Bar (Mediterranean), The Apollon (Greek), Victoria’s (Italian), or two sports bar with food a block away. A short drive is Fratello’s, very nice, located on the Fox River. I would be happy to join you or dinner can be on your own.As this is a travel day and Julian has meetings Friday morning, I have not made any entertainment suggestions for Thursday night.Friday October 23Breakfast at the hotel.8:00 a.m. Julian leaves for his business meeting in Oshkosh in the rental car.8:30 a.m. I will pick up Tara at the Copperleaf.9:00 a.m. Tara and I visit Appleton North High School. We will tour, visit with the Athletic Director and others as needed.10:00 a.m. Tour neighborhoods near Appleton North High School. Please know you can live anywhere in the City of Appleton and request that your students attend the school of your choice. There are two other high schools as well, Appleton East and West.11:00 a.m. Drive through the Fox Cities on our way to Neenah. We will explore neighborhoods and housing options.11:45 p.m. Lunch at Zuppas in Neenah.12:30 p.m. Walk Wisconsin Avenue in Neenah, the downtown area.1:30 p.m. Meet Julian at Neenah High School, 1275 Tullar Rd, Neenah. (From Oshkosh take the Breezewood exit, head west two blocks. Turn right on Tullar Rd.) Park in the visitors’ spots at door 3, the main entrance. Tour the school, visit with coaches and/or the Athletic Director.2:30 Drop the rental car off at the hotel. Meet with the Diversity or Inclusion Officer of the City of Appleton. Yet to be confirmed. 4:30 p.m. Return to the Hotel. Rest and relax 5:15 p.m. Northeastern Wisconsin is known for the famed Friday night fish fry! Dinner recommendation at Mark’s East Side. It’s the best!7:00 p.m. High school football game. This round of playoffs will feature a cross-town rivalry of Appleton West at Appleton North High School. Do not feel compelled to stay for the entire game. Note that it might be raining.9:00 p.m. Return to the hotel.Saturday October 24The day is flexible depending on your interests. I recommend that we keep the 1:30 appointment, and the tour of the Performing Arts Center at 11:00.Breakfast at the hotel, or one of the restaurants on College Avenue.8:30 a.m. On Saturday morning, we will stroll College Ave on foot. The last of the Farmer’s Market will be happening just outside the hotel. From there we will walk a few blocks to the Trout Museum, Houdini Plaza, and perhaps and visit the YMCA and Lawrence University.11:00 a.m. Tour the Fox Cities Performing Arts Center.12:00 p.m. Lunch at Good Company.I have invited Dave Miexel to join us. Dave can give us a unique perspective on high school football. He teaches AP Psychology at Appleton North High School, but is an assistant football coach at Neenah High School.1:30 p.m. We will meet with Ron and Yvette Dunlap at the Copper Rock Café. The Dunlaps are an African American couple who are longtime residents of Appleton. Both are retired school administrators. They can speak to the issues of diversity and inclusion in the Fox Cities, as well as the Appleton public schools. Ron might also address sports, as he spent a short time in the National Basketball Association.3:00 p.m. We will tour the east side of Appleton and drive by the high schools that you have also expressed interest in: Xavier, Fox Valley Lutheran and St. Mary’s.4:30 p.m. Rest and relax at the hotel.5:30 p.m. Dinner at one of the previous mentioned restaurants, or the Lombardi Steak House inside the Paper Valley Hotel.Saturday evening entertainment to be determined.Sunday October 25Breakfast at the hotel or brunch out.Check out of the hotelI suggest a final drive through areas of interest. Because of his meetings at Bemis, Julian might want to see Neenah or Menasha. 1:00 p.m. Last stop, the Fox River Mall! I am unsure if shopping is in your plans, but this mall is a shopping destination, the largest year-round tourist attraction north of Milwaukee.2:00 p.m. Arrive at the airport for a 2:40 departure. ................
