Player Positions – Parents FAQ’sHighlander Soccer ClubWhat is a Primary Roster Player Position?A player is committed to play for one team in our league. How many kids can play on each team? Each team has a specific number of children that is mandatory to form a team. The NW District advises each team have: U9/10/11 in either A or B bracket: 18 maximum players, 8 minimum players primary rostered, no limit on double rostered players, 8v8 game format.U12/13/14 in either A or B bracket: 25 maximum players, 11 minimum players primary rostered, no limited on double rostered players, 11v11 game format. Highlander Soccer Club suggests that our teams carry: No less than 11 primary rostered players to form a U9/10/11 team. No less than 13 primary rostered players to form a U12/13/14 team. What is a Double Roster Position?A double roster position is when a primary rostered player plays for a second team. Highlander Soccer Club strongly discourages the use of double rostered players and will only consider double rostering under the following conditions: The requesting team does not have a goal keeper and no other child is willing to play keeper, then another keeper of the appropriate age can double roster and play.If the requesting player is a girl who is primary on a co-ed team. HSC recognizes that once this child is in middle school or high school, a co-ed team will no longer be available, therefore HSC encourages transitioning to an “all-girl” team by double rostering on an “all-girl” team at a point chosen by the parent and advised by HSC. . The team requesting players is in jeopardy of no longer having a team due to not enough players. Conditions that may occur that lower team numbers can include low tryout numbers, illness, or injury. Players of age appropriate teams may then be requested by the coach to double roster. It is up to the player and the parent to decide if they would like to take this offer. It is mandatory that the parent inform the coach of the primary team of the offer and their choice for this child. Their primary coach cannot make the decision to allow or not allow this player to double roster. Once a child is considered a Double Rostered Player the following rules are mandatory: The player is considered a back-up or on call player when asked to play by the coach of the other team. This player is not considered a primary player at any time. The player will only be called to play if the coach feels he/she will not have enough players/subs for the upcoming game(s) due to the absence of too many primary rostered players. The back-up player at no time should be played more than the primary rostered players. The back-up player must understand that if primary attendance changes at game time, he/she may not play or play very little at this game. What happens when both teams have a game at the same time?Your child should play with the team that is your child’s primary team. The Double Roster/Back-Up/On Call player position is only for one season and can be revoked at any time by the coach of the requesting team .This Double Roster/Back-Up/On Call player position does not mean the child is “on” the primary team and at end of the season there is no choice by this player to primary roster on this team. The double roster position is dissolved. If the child feels he/she would like to play for the team he/she subbed on, then he/she must let their primary coach know, the league know and must register for tryouts for the other team to try to compete to obtain a primary position. ................
