Registration Forms, Emergency Contact, Computer & Health Sheets

PSS #210 requires every student to fill out a demographic form at the beginning of each school year. This process ensures that the information we have in our computer system is correct and up to date should there be an emergency. Also included in your information package is a color calendar, please keep it handy as it has all non student, early dismissal and holidays listed.

The Demographic and Health forms must be filled out and signed by a parent/guardian. Please returned to your child’s teacher no later than September 15th or they will not be allowed to attend computer class.

These sheets contain the information that is in our computer, for school use only. This information is very important in case of an emergency. Thank you. All sheets need to be signed at the bottom and returned by:

Friday, Sept. 15th.

6 Day Cycle

Prairie South Elementary Schools in the Moose Jaw area will follow a 6 day cycle this year. The purpose of this is to provide students with a balanced timetable related to subjects and to accommodate full day kindergarten. In the past, holidays and teacher inservice days caused students to experience an imbalance in their subject timetables as there were, for example, more Thursdays than Fridays. This year students will rotate continually through a 6 day cycle with each day numbered 1 to 6. When a holiday or inservice day occurs, the day is not counted in the 6 day cycle.

Please save and post the

attached color calendar.

LOCKING OF DOORS AT KING GEORGE SCHOOL AND OFFICE SIGN IN:

We take your childs safety seriously at KG and so all entry doors to our school are locked at all times, except our front main entrance, which will be open from 8:30 am until 4 pm. After hours for community programs & sporting events – only the gym door entrance will be open.

• Teachers on doors/halls supervision will be letting students in their respective entry doors before school in the morning and afternoon, as well as after recesses.

• Students needing entry during the day or arriving late for school will need to enter through the front

door and check in at the office before proceeding to class.

• We also will be requiring “all” visitors/guests to our school to sign in at the office before going anywhere in the school.

• When parents/guardians are picking up students during class times for appointments or such, we ask that they do so at the office so students can be signed out by the parents/guardians before leaving.

These procedures are looked at as a pro-active measure by our Staff to help ensure a safe, caring and respectful School. Thank you in advance for your support and co-operation with these safety rules and procedures.

VISITORS TO THE SCHOOL

We miss you when you’re not here! We know that being present and on time has a positive impact on all learning. Please join us in encouraging your child to be at school every day. If there are ways that we can help support your child’s attendance please do not hesitate to contact either your child’s teacher or school administration.

If your child is ill and going to be absent from or late to school, please call the King George office at 692-3908 between 8:30 - 9:00 a.m. Doing so will save Mrs. Beattie, the school secretary valuable time and will ensure that all our students are safe. We thank you for your co-operation.

Lunch

All bus students are expected to stay for lunch. Students may leave the school only when the parent has either called the school office or sent a note and it is received at the office prior to lunch hour. Parents of non-bus students requesting their children stay at school for lunch will need to make arrangements via the office.

Physical Activity Safety Guidelines

Clothing and Footwear requirements:

1. Appropriate clothing and footwear shall be required of each student for each activity, for the weather conditions, and for the age and skill level of the student. Jewelry must be removed prior to participation in all physical activities.

2. Sun and insect protection should be appropriate for the sport and the weather.

3. Tie back long hair when it could obscure vision or become a danger to the student’s safety.

4. Encourage students with prescription eye wear to have glasses secured with a strap for vigorous physical activity.

Fitness and Transportation

Children know that using active transportation to and from school is part of a healthy lifestyle, it’s good for the environment and it makes them feel happier. Active transportation to and from school is a great way for children to start and end their day. We would love to see students walking, biking, etc… to school as often as possible.

However, we know that active transportation is not always possible. If you are driving your child to school or picking them up, we ask that you watch for and obey the signs posted around the school streets. As many of you are aware, there are a number of no parking signs around King George. These areas are designated as no parking by the city and can be ticketed. Some of the streets are narrow and can become very congested causing a number of safety concerns. Student safety is our number one priority. You can help us keep our students safe by parking only where there is parking allowed. For your convenience, our bus zone will be marked with pylons – please do not park in this area. Thank you for your cooperation in this matter.
