YAY!Thank you for your continual flexibility and partnership as we step into a school year that will be different than anything we have experienced before. The purpose of this document is to provide specific plans, procedures, and practices for the in-person cohort learning model. The contents of this plan are derived from the Cherry Creek Schools Elementary Plan for the 2020-21 School Year and meet guidance measures from the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment (CDPHE) and Tri-County Health Department. These plans are subject to change based on state, district, and Health Department guidance. In order to help you and your family prepare for what school will present, please read this document in its entirety.I also would recommend reading the Frequently Asked Questions on the Cherry Creek Schools website, as the contents of this document will only detail the procedures and precautions taken by Walnut Hills staff and students. Miss BourbonniePrincipalWalnut Hills ElementaryAdjusted Calendar UpdatesPhase-In StartIn an effort to provide support to students and staff and to ensure that everyone understands safety protocols, we will implement a gradual return to school based on the following schedule:Monday, August 17, 2020- 5th Grade ONLYTuesday, August 18, 2020 - 4th Grade ONLYWednesday, August 19, 2020 - 3rd Grade ONLYThursday, August 20, 2020 - 2nd Grade ONLYFriday, August 21, 2020 - Kindergarten and First Grade ONLYThe first day of school for all students at the same time will be August 24, 2020. Kindergarten Testing DaysFor our incoming Kindergarten students and families, there will be scheduled times on August 17th & August 18th where students will come to school individually and work with our Kindergarten teachers on screening assessments. Parents are able to join students for these meetings and will be expected to adhere to all safety precautions. Kindergarten Families Only: Links to a sign-up genius will be sent to you from your child’s teacher. Please look for the sign-up genius in your email starting today.Teacher Furlough Days AddedDue to significant budget constraints, Cherry Creek Schools have added five furlough days to the academic calendar. In terms of student-contact days, three dates have been changed to teacher furlough days, making changes to the 2020-21 calendar. For parents who need to pick up students early or take care of other school-related business, all visitors (parents, guardians, relatives, etc.) must enter through the main entrance. All visitors are required to wear a mask/face covering and practice physical distancing while on the school premises.When visitors arrive, use the doorbell or call the office at (720) 554-3800. The office staff will provide directions on how to enter the building. Note: If there are already visitors in the foyer, visitors may be asked to wait outside until others vacate the waiting areaStudent Restrooms and Drinking Fountains:Restrooms can be occupied by two students at a time (separate stalls), with physical distancing cues for students waiting in lineStudents will use the restroom located near his/her classroom onlyAdditional hand soap dispensers will be installedRestrooms will be cleaned at least once per dayDrinking directly from drinking fountains is discouraged, students are encouraged to bring a personal water bottle from home and can fill up water bottles in classroom sinksNurse’s Clinic:Our school nurse will implement procedures for dispensing medications as well as responding to sick or injured students while maintaining physical distancing. Plans are in place for isolating symptomatic students waiting to be picked upStudents showing symptoms of illness must be picked up as soon as possible by a parent or guardianMeetings and AssembliesNo large group face-to-face assembliesNo large group face-to-face community eventsPTCO, SAC, P.A.S.S meetings, etc. will all be held virtually.No field trips (We will not have Camp Cheley this fall. Stay tuned.)Safety DrillsSafety Drills will be implemented and aligned with the most recent guidance from local fire and law enforcement agencies.Daily Schedule - Procedures and GuidelinesBefore SchoolAll parents/guardians are expected to conduct a COVID-19 symptom check for students before arrival at school. The App - will walk families through a symptom check and guide if symptoms are present. The Health Check App information will be sent to families. More information to come.If showing symptoms of illness, do not bring students to school or send your student on the bus.Be sure your student(s) has two masks or face-coverings. Students who forget or do not bring a mask to school will be provided one before entering the building. Pack a water bottle, water fountains use is highly discouragedPlease send two snacks with your child dailyFamiliarize yourself with the drop-off procedures and arrival map (see below)Arrival/Soft StartUpon arrival, students will walk along the exterior of the school to their assigned grade-level doors.Soft start/staggered start times are staggered between grade levels. Please see the schedule below.Students are expected to follow physical distancing guidelines and wear masks as they enter the building during soft start.Students will enter their designated grade level doors only. Please do not congregate at the main entrance or other doors.If students arrive before 7:45 am, supervision will not be provided, unless enrolled in Cougar Club. Playground use and other activities on the blacktop, fields, and play equipment will not be allowed before school. Staff will be greeting students beginning at 7:45 am and provide a brief symptom check (check for face covering, etc.) before students entering school.Students will be directed to wash their hands once inside the classroom. Students attending Cougar Club before school will have a staggered release to classrooms to limit the number of students in the hall beginning at 7:45 am, escorted by the Cougar Club staff. Students who get breakfast will get it delivered to them in the classroom. Parents and other visitors are not permitted throughout the building. Walnut Hills has two cohorts at each grade level.Teachers will maintain structures that support students with individual needs while minimizing the intermingling of cohorts (cross-grade will not happen)Your child’s teacher will provide instruction to students for both the in-person and the remote instruction model.Handwashing sinks are all available within students’ homeroom class.Students will have individualized supplies such as pencils, notebooks, markers, and technology devices that will not be shared with other students in the classroom. The school supply list can be found HYPERLINK "" here.Classrooms will be cleared of non-essential furniture to maximize space for students seating arrangements and establish at least 3 feet of space between workspaces.Proper Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) will be provided for all staff.Specials Classes (Art, Music, PE)Students will attend specials with cohort classmates every dayStudents will rotate specials on a two-week rotation and receive instruction with the same special for two weeks at a time.When weather permits, specials will provide instruction outsideSupplies such as sports equipment, paintbrushes, scissors as well as tabletops will be cleaned between cohorts. Ten minutes of scheduled time has been built into the schedule to clean between grade levelMusic Specific Procedures: No mouth instruments will be usedWhen singing, students must wear a mask and will need to be at least 9 feet apart.This also pertains to singing in the classroomNo planned partner activities such as clapping games or hand-holding. Lunch and RecessWalnut Hills will eat in the cafeteria and outside based on weather. Parents/families will not be allowed to eat with children at lunch inside or outside.Lunchrooms will be organized to ensure a minimum of 3 feet between students while eating.Two cohorts will be in the cafeteria at the same time with at least six feet between cohortsStudents will eat lunch as a classroom cohort, with an assigned set of tablesStudents buying lunch will do so in a staggered manner to avoid close contact and mixing cohortsVisual cues marked on the floor will guide physical distancing between students in line.Students will play on the field and the playground at recess. Students will wash hands before lunch as well as upon return to the classroom after recess. Dismissal/End of School DayAt the end of the school day, students will take part in a controlled release to limit the mixing of cohorts and maintaining physical distancing.At 2:40: Students who are attending the Cougar Club After Care program will be picked up by Cougar Club staff membersAt 2:40: Students who ride the school bus will be picked up at their classrooms by Walnut Hills staff and escorted to the busAt 2:43 4th, 1st and 3rd Grade Students who walk or are being picked up will be dismissed from the designate doors (same as entrance doors) At 2:46 5th, 2nd and Kindy Students who walk or are being picked up will be dismissed from the designate doors (same as entrance doors) Students who walk or are picked up should walk directly home or to his/her parent’s vehicle upon exit, please do not linger or congregate in large groups before or after school.Playground use and other activities on the blacktop, fields, and play equipment will not be allowed after school.
