Perioperative Services Revision Date: 11/2020 Reports To: VP - CMO Acute Care Job Code: Supervises: Physicians & others as assigned FLSA Status: Exempt (if employed). May also be an independent physician with a contractual relationship Job Summary: Works collaboratively with an administrative partner in a Dyad model to provide medical and administrative leadership for Perioperative Services. The Physician leader and administrative partner are responsible for the day-to-day operations of Perioperative Services including oversight of the clinical delivery team performance, patient experience, provider services (i.e. behavior) and financial performance. This Dyad team is also responsible for: ensures operational efficiency including defining and designing system-wide standards, as well as improving/eliminating areas of unexplained clinical variation and inefficiency; sets the strategic vision, goals, and objectives for Perioperative Services growth; designs and achieves efficiency initiatives and quality initiatives; and assures alignment with Health System strategy. They are the primary drivers of performance improvement of quality, safety and patient experience for Perioperative Services. This position is expected to have a term of 3 years with successive terms decided by a selection committee and approved by the RSFH Chief Physician Officer (CPO). Perioperative Services: Responsible for the management of the perioperative environment to include perioperative testing. It is expected that this role will encompass approximately 20% of the Physician’s time and the other 80% will be dedicated to the individual’s clinical/medical practice although that amount may be adjusted with the approval of the RSFH CPO or RSFH CEO. Minimum Qualifications: Education: MD/DO with active South Carolina licensure. Must be considered in “good standing” in accordance with the Medical Staff Bylaws, Rules & Regulations. Experience: At least five (5) years of experience as a practicing physician in a procedural specialty or Anesthesia area required. At Least one of the following: (1) Completion of the Physician Executive Leadership course offered by RSFH; (2) completion of or enrolled in an equivalent Physician Executive Leadership course; (3) a Master’s Degree in Business, Medical Management, or Healthcare related field; or (4) Certified Physician Executive via American Association of Physician Leaders; or (5) Willingness to enroll in Physician Leadership Training offered through RSFH at the next offering. Prior managerial experience preferred Licensure/Certification: Licensed Medical Doctor, Board Certification in Specialty Required. Oversight of the financial performance of the Perioperative Services to achieve budgeted goals/targets.10%Defines and designs system-wide care standards as well as clinical guidelines and protocols relevant to Perioperative Services, including PAT processes, Preoperative processes, Operative environment processes, PACU processes and SPD. Works with Anesthesia and proceduralists to identify areas of unexplained clinical variation and ensures adoption of evidence-based practices where appropriate. Develops standardized workflows for Anesthesia care and with IT to ensure deployment and then optimization of Anesthesia Modules of the EHR. Extensive knowledge and understanding of Medical Staff Bylaws as well as select policies and procedures, particularly regarding incident reporting. 20%Serve as the medical leader for operational efficiency and coordinated care in association with Anesthesia and other IPNs and distributed services, including working with and providing feedback to administrative support areas as necessary. The role is to work in support IPN leadership. 10%Sets block utilization and overall OR utilization metrics and drives outcomes with a standardized performance improvement methodology. Assists in developing quality performance standards for Anesthesia in conjunction with the Anesthesia Medical Directors for the system. Develops performance goals and scorecards for the physicians and other medical directors performing services within Perioperative Services. Ensures alignment of these goals with the RSFH system goals. 20%Sets the strategic vision, goals, and objectives for the Perioperative Services including growth and assures alignment with RSFH system strategy. 20%Promotes and encourages provider and clinical staff development. Encourages positive interaction and effective communication among practitioners, patients, staff and administration 10%Participates in regularly scheduled meetings and be available for other meetings, as necessary 10%Performs other job duties and responsibilities as required.
