Responsible for Sessional staff and office volunteers as required

Purpose of post To lead and develop the Trust’s work with volunteers, establishing best practice for volunteer management throughout the organisation

Background

• Sharing nature’s stories: we will inspire and involve people with the natural world, sharing engaging stories and being inclusive and interactive in our communications.

Main Objectives

To ensure the best possible experience for volunteers at the Trust, leading on the delivery of the Trust’s Volunteer Strategy and ensuring that our volunteers are supported to make the greatest contribution towards the achievement of our strategic goals.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead on implementing the Trust’s Volunteer Strategy

• Create and update a volunteer handbook

• Develop consistent approach to managing volunteers across the whole organisation

• Drive best practice for supporting volunteers throughout their journey

• Develop and implement consistent monitoring of volunteer activity

• Be first point of contact for prospective volunteers

• Work closely with and support the delivery of colleague’s work across the organisation, helping officers to meet their engagement and conservation targets including volunteer participation and other project outputs

• Proactively promote volunteer opportunities to individuals and groups across the region

• Lead on the recruitment and general induction of volunteers

• Coordinate volunteer communications including e-newsletter and annual survey

• Ensure that the volunteer voice is heard in decisions affecting the Trust

• Develop and coordinate a high quality programme of training for volunteers

• Ensure volunteer data is held securely in our Subscriber database

• Stay abreast of legislation affecting volunteers

Other duties

• Act as an ambassador for the Trust, forming and maintaining positive relationships with volunteers, visitors and other organisations, and promoting membership wherever possible.

• Carry out any other reasonable duties commensurate with the level of responsibility of the post, as requested by your line manager or the Chief Executive.

• Attend such meetings and Trust committees as may be required.

• Prepare papers and take minutes at meetings as may be required.

Other items

• The nature of this post means that out of hours and weekend working will sometimes be required, for which time off in lieu will be granted

• This post is based at the Wildlife Trust’s head office, however, travel to other Trust sites or elsewhere (including nationally) as the need arises will be required.

General Terms and Conditions

Pay-scale Senior Project Officer - grade 3 point 7

Salary £23,087 FTE per annum, actual salary £9,234.80

Pension The Trust contributes 7% to an employee pension scheme. Full details will be provided.

Hours of Work Part-time: 15 hours per week (potential for growth)

Overtime is not paid but time off in lieu may be taken where appropriate.

Duration of post Permanent Contract. All new employees undertake a probationary period of 6 months, in which time they are expected to demonstrate their suitability for the post.

Holidays 10 days annual leave (including 3 to be taken over Christmas and New Year), plus pro rata statutory public holidays.

Place of work Based at the Trust’s Head Office at Centre of the Earth at 42 Norman Street, Winson Green, Birmingham B18 7EP and travelling to sites across Birmingham and the Black Country as needed.
