You will focus on the weather. First remind the children about the different seasons we previously discussed.-Fall-windy, the leaves fall, school starts-Winter-cold, snow, shorter days.-Spring-getting warmer, flowers beginning to grow. -And now summer. You will discuss how summer is different than the other seasons. It’s hot, days are longer and we can enjoy outside activities. The summer is hot because of the sun. You can then review what we learned about the sun: It’s a star. It’s hot and gives us heat. It also gives us light. Its far away. Its big-Ask students what season they enjoy the most. Art: SUN- Students will create a sun. Show students a picture of the sun. Then discuss its shape and color. Also remind them that the sun has rays that give us light and heat. Then provide materials for your child to create their own original sun. Write the word- SunWriting: Write a Story: Invite children to work in pairs to write and illustrate stories about what they wear in the summer. One child can be the author and one can be the illustrator (or children can work independently and take on both roles). Talk with them about each role.Literacy/Library: Students will partake in a letter game, focusing on this month’s letters. Letter Hop: Write the letters B, F, A, P, T, H on separate paper circles. Call out a letter and have child hop to the letter called out. Repeat with different actions.Dramatic Play: Summer clothing- Students will be encouraged to sort through clothing and hang them to dry on a clothing line. What is a clothing line? What type of clothing should we wear in the summer? Sensory: Put toys in a bucket of room temperature water. Play with the toys in the water. What happens to the temperature of the water when you add ice cubes? What happens to the temperature of the water when you add warm water?Math: Sun ray math- How many rays should go on the sun? Students will be encouraged to cut and paste sun rays to their sun. How many rays did they glue?TuesdayDate: 7/13/21.What happens to items that are placed in the summer sun? Review what we learned about the sun. Talk about what the students think will happen if we leave items in the sun, like ice, chocolate or candy. Using a blow drier turn it on and ask the children if it is hot or cold? Ask the children what will happen if we blow hot air on ice, candy or chocolate? Demonstrate how ice or chocolates melts when heat blows on it- just like if it is left out in the sun.Art: Sun visors- Today students will create a sun visor to protect their eye from the sun. You can take a plate and cut out a moon shape or use the pattern provided. Then have students decorate the sun visor and they can add their name. When they finished the sun visor add a pipe cleaner or a string or elastic to the back. Write the word Sun Visor.Writing: Invite students to look through magazines and newspapers. Cut out various letters using scissors (with assistance) and create unit vocabulary words. Paste words on paper.Literacy/Library: Students will use pictures to create a collage of words that start with Letter “B” and “F”.Dramatic Play: Summer clothing- Students will be encouraged to sort through clothing and hang them to dry on a clothing line. What is a clothing line? What type of clothing should we wear in the summer? Math: Clothes line pattern- students will be encouraged to create and cut clothes to attach to their own personal clothesline. Can they create a pattern? How many items do they have?Blocks: Sun rays- sun rays come in different sizes- encourage students to build suns and add rays. What are sun rays? Can we measure real rays? Are rays all the same length?Science: Sunscreen science- Using sunscreen, have the students hypothesis what will happen if we lathered it on paper and put the paper in the sun?WednesdayDate: 7/14/21Continue talking about the summer weather. Teacher will discuss the hot sun. Then you will talk about what people wear when the weather is hot (Hat, cap, sun visor; Short sleeves; Shorts; Swimming suit; Flip flops; sunglasses). Students will go around and tell their peers what they are wearing today. They will use the sentence “I am wearing…”.Art: Flip flops- Flip flops are special shoes we wear in the summer. Today we will create flip flops. First have students’ trace their feet on hard paper or cardboard box. Then allow students to cut it out. Then let your student decorate the paper. Insert pipe cleaner to create flip flop or a strip of paper to hold the toes. Write the word-Flip-flopsWriting: Students will draw pictures of what they wear in the summer. Students will write down what the various summer clothing items.Literacy/Library: Students will walk around the classroom or home identifying objects that start with Letter “B” and “F”.Dramatic Play: Summer sun- Students will be encouraged to prepare their babies to go out in the sun. How should we prepare our babies? What should they wear to protect themselves in the sun? Have students use their sunglasses, visors and sunscreen to prepare themselves and babies to go out in the sun.Blocks: Add flashlights to block center—have students use these flashlights as a sunSensory: Use an empty sunscreen bottle outside. Fill the sunscreen bottle up with water and pretend you are putting on sunscreen.Outdoor Play/Music: Find your shadow outside. Put on your favorite song and move your body around while paying attention to your shadow.ThursdayDate: 7/15/21 Students will continue talking about the summer weather. Teacher will review the four seasons and what people wear in each season:-Fall-jacket, long pants, school shoes.-Winter-coat, scarf, hat, gloves, boots-Spring-light jacket, sneakers, lighter clothing-Summer- cap, sun visor, Short sleeves, Shorts, Swimming suit, Flip flops, sunglassesTeacher will ask each student what they would wear in different seasons. For example, one student will be asked what would they wear in winter, while another student will be asked what would they wear in the spring.Art: Sunglasses- Sunglasses is another way to protect your eyes from the sun. Today students will make sunglasses. You can have students trace a glasses pattern on hard paper. Have them cut it out. Afterwards they can color and decorate the glasses. Then add cellophane paper to create the sunglasses. Or you can use pipe cleaners to create the sunglasses. Write the word Sunglasses.Writing: Students will draw pictures of what they wear in the summer. Students will write down what the various summer clothing items.Literacy/Library: Read a book or look at pictures in a book. Point out pictures and review what letter the pictures start with. High five when you find a picture that starts with letter “B” and “F”.Dramatic Play: Summer vacation- students will be going on a summer vacation. How will they pack for their baby? What will they pack to take on their trip?Math: Sun ray math- How many rays should go on the sun? Students will be encouraged to cut and paste sun rays to their sun. First you can remind them that the leaves use the sun rays to make food for the plants and trees. The sun gives us heat so we are not cold. It also provides light so we can see. The sun also gives us vitamin D which is important for our bones. We also need to protect yourselves from the sun. Students will think about ways that they can protect themselves from the sun. Responses may include: going in shade, using sunglasses, staying hydrated, wearing big hat. Responses will be jotted down on chart paper.Art: Season clothing collage- Using pictures from different seasons, have students sort and label which clothing would be worn in summer or winter labeled within a T graph.Writing: Invite students to look through magazines and newspapers. Cut out various letters using scissors (with assistance) and create unit vocabulary words. Paste words on paper.Literacy/Library: Students will look through magazines and newspapers.
