PASTOR’S CORNER
Do you have a specific ministry? I hope so. The New Testament teaches us that every “born again” Christian is called by God, gifted by God, and sent by God.
God has called every Christian to a specific ministry. Yes, God has called EVERY Christian to ministry, not just the pastor of the church. Jesus was clear in chapter 14 of the Gospel of John when He told the disciples that we would do even greater “things” than He has done. How can we do even greater things than Jesus, if we do not recognize that He has called EVERY Christian to ministry? Have you discovered what that ministry is? If not, then you should begin by recognizing that God has “gifted” every “born again” Christian.
The gift that God has given you comes by way of the Holy Spirit. Upon your salvation, you have been given a gift for ministry. Every Christian has at least one gift from God. The New Testament refers to them as “grace” gifts. Those gifts are for ministry. The Apostle Paul teaches us in a number of his letters to the churches in the New Testament that these “gifts” from God are given so that the church may be built up. In other words, they are your gifts, but their purpose is to grow the church spiritually and numerically. These gifts are also to glorify God. That means, we are not to be selfish with our gift. It is to be used, and when it is, God is lifted up, not us. Your gift was given to you so that you will serve God with it, and through it. Have you discovered that gift yet? If not, your service to God is incomplete because you are not using it to glorify God and to build up the church. You are not fulfilling your purpose of being sent into the world for the gospel.
God has called you. God has gifted you. And, He has sent you. He has sent each of us to serve Him in the church, and in the world. Our mission is to share the gospel with a world that needs the salvation that only comes through Jesus Christ. Every “born again” Christian is a minister. Every “born again” Christian is called to serve. That’s what being a minister is all about. You SERVE.
So how do you serve? How will you serve? The church nominating committee will be calling you soon. When they ask you to serve, remember that you are a minister. You have been called to serve, gifted to serve, and sent to serve. Just remember that before you give them your answer.

It is summer and many will be taking a vacation to various parts of the country. One of the things that we always try to do is to go to church in the area where we are staying. Sometimes this is at an established church and sometimes it is a service in a campground. No matter where we are, we meet some very nice people and we always feel welcome. Perhaps you might consider doing this while you are away.
As we look back over our time with you, it is hard to believe that we have been back with you for over 10 years. Our time spent here has been wonderful and we appreciate your support both as a congregation as well as the choir. Not many people get a chance to “come home” and we thank you for that opportunity.
At the time of this writing some of our people, including Pastors Ed and Steve, are away on a mission trip to Wise, VA. As I mentioned in church, missions are very important and we don’t have to look far to find spiritual needs as well as a need for a helping hand with a leaky roof or broken faucet. Thanks to all who went and I know that you were praying for this program that was sponsored by the Lynchburg Baptist Association.
We hope that you have been enjoying the “new” old music that we have been doing recently. I have certainly been blessed by this music, some of which has been rather fast and some slow. Thanks to the choir and Gloria for working so hard in learning these songs.
In His Service,
Mel
