2nd Grade Homework
Due: Friday, August 29, 2014
Reminder: All homework is due on Friday. Work not completed must be done in study hall.
*Be sure you put your name on EVERY paper.
Math: We have been working on number patterns this week (sequencing). Your homework is to complete the attached sequencing sheet. Be looking for patterns on this sheet.
Reading: Our reading story is Henry and Mudge and the Starry Night. The genre is realistic fiction and our skill is character, setting and plot. You need to read this story to an adult before Friday’s test.
Spelling: You must write your spelling words in the assignment book before Monday morning. There is a place each week for this. Be ready for Friday’s spelling test. Words are on the back of this sheet. There are 24 words this week.
English/Writing Workshop: It is important that you begin writing in complete sentences. This means you begin every sentence with a capital letter and you end every sentence with an ending mark. Practice writing sentences at home just like we practice at school.
NEWS FOR PARENTS:
• I have attached your child’s STAR Reader test score. This test determines what AR level he/she will be reading. The report is yours to keep. We take this test in August, December and in May.
• I will be making computer cards for your child this next week. Every username and password he/she will need this year will be on that card. I will also include your child’s AR level on that card.
• I am in the process of setting up an email distribution list so you can receive the weekly homework sheet and other important information. If you haven’t given me an email address, and you would like to be put on that distribution list, email me asap at stephanie.barnes@anderson.kyschools.us
• I have included a sheet entitled “Different Ways to Study Spelling Words.” This is yours to keep. I suggest keeping it on the fridge or making your child keep it in his/her spelling folder.
• If your child has any books/magazines that he/she is no longer using, I will gladly take those off your hands. ( Please do not send in damaged/torn books or magazines.
• I have a prize box (cheap toys) and a treat box (candy) in my room. If you are at Wal-Mart, The Dollar Store or The Dollar Tree, and can pick up some things throughout the year, I would really appreciate it.
• Specials for next week…Monday is music, Tuesday is art, Wednesday is library, Thursday is p.e. (must wear tennis shoes), and Friday is music.
I am really enjoying our year so far! Have a great weekend!
