ST. MICHAEL THE ARCHANGEL SCHOOL
CELEBRATING 30 YEARS of Jesus, Others, Yourself
November 2007
Dear Parents,
Thanksgiving immediately brings to mind thoughts of the festive holiday we are about to celebrate. It is also an opportunity to reflect on why we are thankful. We are thankful for our students, their families, and a caring community where we can gather daily to foster God’s love. We are truly blessed in so many ways!
This month our school community is collecting food so that those less fortunate can enjoy a special Thanksgiving meal. We appreciate your generosity in helping these families.
May God, in His goodness, continue to bless you and your family. Happy Thanksgiving!
Sincerely,
Mrs. Carol Sonon

Welcome to our Newest Faculty Members
Mrs. Cari, Grade 1A, lives in Emmaus with her husband John – a teacher and the soccer coach at Emmaus High School. They have 3 children; Molly – 7, Nicholas – 6, and Emma – 21 months. Mrs. Cari enjoys attending her children’s soccer games, listening to Molly in the children’s choir, reading to her children, and going to the bookstore and grabbing a coffee at Starbuck’s. She is excited to be teaching the precious first graders!
Mrs. Crouse, Physical Education and Health Instructor, is a graduate of East Stroudsburg University. She lives in Allentown with her husband, Carl, and their children – Chris, 14, a freshman at Allentown Central Catholic High School, and twins Nicholas and Emily, 11, who attend Springhouse Middle School. She also has a 2 year old, adorable Labra-doodle, Shadow. When Mrs. Crouse is not teaching here at St. Michael’s, she can be found on the campus at Cathedral School in Allentown where she also teaches physical education and health. In her spare time, she enjoys teaching acrobatics (tumbling) at Patricia Bostick Dance Center in Allentown, spending time with her family at the children’s events, and skiing.
Mrs. Korpics, Grade 3, lives in Center Valley with her husband Richard and their sons, Ivan and Jozef. She is happy to be back in the classroom after taking time off to stay at home with her sons while they were little. Mrs. Korpics is enjoying her first year at St. Michael’s and says her third grade students make her smile and laugh every day. Mrs. Korpics loves to cook – especially around the holidays when she makes all the traditional Slovak and Russian dishes for her family. She also enjoys trying out new ethnic food restaurants with her sister. She looks forward to the weekends when she can spend time with her family going to football games, watching the boys play baseball and basketball, and family game nights. She also enjoys walking in her neighborhood, swimming laps at the YWCA, and watching old, classic movies and musicals.

INTERNATIONAL DAY…
What a wonderful celebration of God’s creation from all around the world! Special thanks to our many volunteers for their time, talents, and donations to make this day such a success! The foods were delicious, as always. Our third through eighth grade students genuinely enjoyed the wide array of foods and desserts, Scavenger Hunt in the artifacts area, and the entertaining storyteller, Kristin Pedemonti. Many of our student also enjoyed posing for the photographer from the Saucon News where our festivity was featured on the front page the week of October 25 followed by a full page of photos last week! Special thanks to Mrs. Kathy Fidati for coordinating this event. We look forward to next year’s celebration!
CONGRATULATIONS…
Madison Faust, Diana Kocsis, Megan McGill, and Amanda Mobley
This team of girls had a First Place Finish in their age bracket at the Cathedral Open CYO Cross-Country Meet (1/2 mile).
Way to go, girls!

Did You Know?
Veteran’s Day was established as a Federal holiday in 1938 by our 28th president, Woodrow Wilson. The date, November 11, is the anniversary of the signing of the armistice that ended World War I in 1918. This year Monday, November 12 will be celebrated as the holiday, since November 11 is a Sunday.
To honor our Veteran’s, our eighth grade students participated in “Operation: Thank You Veterans!” a curriculum sponsored by the Morning Call’s Newspaper in Education Program in cooperation with the Wilkes Barre Medical Center and the Allentown VA Outpatient Clinic. Our students wrote letters or made cards to be delivered to these clinics during the first week in November, just in time for Veteran’s Day. It is their hope that these cards and letters will remind these courageous veterans just how special and important they are to our country!
