|Cell 3D Model Project |

|Your Mission: |

|To make a 3D model of the plant or animal cell AND a prokaryotic bacterial cell using common everyday materials. |

|Requirements: |

|MODELS |

|You will need to make a model of an animal and a plant cell |

|You will also need to make a model of a prokaryotic cell |

|You need to include the following organelles/cell parts (where appropriate) |

|Cell membrane |Cytoplasm |Ribosome |Rough Endoplasmic Reticulum |

|Nucleus |Golgi Apparatus |Cell Wall |Nucleolus |

|DNA |Nuclear Envelope |Chloroplast |Mitochondria |

|Centrioles |Nucleoid region |Flagella |Cilia |

|Cytoskeleton |Lysosome |Vacuole |Smooth Endoplasmic Reticulum |

|LABELS |

|The cell type (plant or animal) should be labeled. |

|All cell organelles and parts of the cell should also be labeled somehow. Be creative! |

|Identification of organelles could be done using flags made of toothpicks stuck in the appropriate organelle. |

|The name of the structure can be written on the flag or piece of tape. |

|FILL OUT A “FUNCTIONS KEY” FOR THIS PROJECT |

|The organelles should be listed on a separate piece of paper (worksheet provided). |

|You should include a brief explanation of the function of each organelle used in your models. |

|Suggestions for Getting Started |

|Think of materials that would best represent the different organelles. You may NOT use perishable foods OR candy (we have ants ( in the classroom). Materials |

|used to represent organelles may include anything. I suggest that you use what you have at home. Do not make this into an expensive project! |

|Ex: wood, buttons, yarn, thread, non perishable food items (noodles), plastic, paper, Styrofoam, etc. The dollar store has LOTS of ideas! |

|Make a key of the organelles/cell parts and their functions before you make the model |

|Grading: EUKARYOTIC CELL MODEL |Points Possible |

|Your model is complete and is correctly labeled (plant or animal) |2 |

|All organelles/cell parts are present in your model and correctly labeled (2 pts per organelle/part) |30 |

|PLANT MODELS SHOULD HAVE ALL ORGANELLES/PARTS FROM LIST ABOVE | |

|ANIMAL MODELS SHOULD HAVE ALL ORGANELLES/PARTS FROM LIST ABOVE | |

|A key is present which includes a list of organelles in the model and the functions are correct |16 |

|Your name and period are on your model somehow |4 |

|Creativity and Neatness |10 |

|TOTAL POINTS: |62 |

|Grading: PROKARYOTIC CELL MODEL |Points Possible |

|Your model is complete |2 |

|All organelles/cell parts are present in your model and correctly labeled |10 |

|Function key of organelles is present and correct |8 |

|Creativity and Neatness |10 |

|TOTAL POINTS: |30 |

| |TOTAL PTS: 92 |
