THE HIGHLIGHTS AT EMO: AN OVERVIEW

Coordinate Measuring with Mitutoyo

Flexible, agile and intelligent. These are the attributes with which measurement instrument manufacturer Mitutoyo characterises its new system concept MACH-Ko-ga-me, which had its German debut at Control 2013.

Mitutoyo MACH-Ko-ga-me is an extremely compact 3D CNC system for flexible measuring that is versatile in its configuration options.

With the models of the CRYSTA-Apex S series, Mitutoyo continues CRYSTA-Apex, its successful line of coordinate measuring machines, into a new generation.

Compared with the previous series, CRYSTA-Apex C, the current models of the series feature a significantly higher scanning rate with an extremely high accuracy. This is made possible by the new UC400 controller.

The MACH-3A 653 coordinate measuring machine is ideal for high-precision in-line measuring despite rough ambient conditions.

Thanks to its completely encapsulated design, the system proves extremely resistant to the influences of rough production environments. And all this within an expanded temperature range of 5 to 40 degrees Celsius.

With a maximum traversing speed of up to 1,212 mm/s and an acceleration that is ten times that of other coordinate measuring machines, this high-speed CMM reaches its target extremely quickly. These virtues are complemented by an impressive accuracy: the length measurement deviation values of the MACH-3A 653 start at 2.5 µm.

Mitutoyo presents SurfaceMeasure, its first own laser scanner for use with 3D coordinate measuring machines. The automatic adaptation of the laser intensity to the scanned surface is the highlight of the system.

SurfaceMeasure has a line width of 60 millimetres and records 75,000 points per second, at a point distance of 60 µm. These parameters enable the measuring time to be reduced considerably compared with the conventional contact measurement methods – and with increased detail at the same time.

SURFTEST Probe by Mitutoyo is a sensor for roughness measurement on coordinate measuring machines. Mitutoyo's proven Surftest roughness tester technology is thus transferred to a substantial extent to 3D coordinate measuring.

In combination with the extraordinarily compact PH10 probe head series, SURFTEST Probe is ideally suited also for use on medium-sized and small measuring machines.

At EMO 2013, Mitutoyo presents MAFIS-Express, a 3D version of its powerful software module for inspecting and evaluating turbine blades.

MAFIS-Express makes it possible to save an astonishing amount of time when programming and measuring turbine blades ("blades" and "blisks").

At EMO 2013, Mitutoyo presents the current version of its high-end software MeasurLink for statistical process control. MeasurLink has a modular structure and affords individual solutions for detecting, analysing and managing measurement data.

Form Measuring with Mitutoyo

As an example for the successful SURFTEST surface roughness testers series, Mitutoyo presents at EMO 2013

the skid system SJ-310 and reference plane measuring systems

of the SJ-410 series, among other systems.

The extremely easy-to-use, intuitive user guidance with 16 language options is a common feature of these portable, battery-operated devices. The devices are operated via a dust-proof, touch-sensitive operating panel. The measurement results and the profiles are displayed identically on a generously dimensioned 14.5 cm screen. The measurement results, the graphs and the measurement conditions are output by means of an integrated printer in all models.

With two different types of dual-stylus systems, Mitutoyo documents its competence in contour and surface roughness measuring at EMO 2013. The models FORMTRACER SV-C3200 and FORMTRACER SV-C4500, a "two-in-one" solution with two different feeding units for measuring contours and surfaces, are featured at the exhibition.

ROUNDTEST measuring instruments from Mitutoyo represent sophisticated solutions for all modern form measuring requirements in production, the testing room and the laboratory. Their comprehensive range of models offers exact configuration for accurately measuring rotationally symmetrical workpieces. Within the series, the compact ROUNDTEST RA-2200 deserves special attention.

This instrument, which is available in two sizes, is especially designed for automatic series inspection and serves for quickly and reliably determining deviations from form and position. Already in its basic form, it provides for a convincing performance due to its versatile design.

The supporting software component USB Communication Tool is now available for free downloading on the websites mitutoyo.de and mitutoyo.eu.

The USB Communication Tool for the surface roughness tester versions of the Surftest SJ series is a Microsoft Excel-based macro. It provides for quick and easy generation of inspection certificates.

The data transmitted via a USB cable include measuring conditions, measurement results, the graphical representation of the profile, BAC and ADC curves.

Vision Measuring with Mitutoyo

Mitutoyo’s vision measuring instruments range also includes models comprising touch systems. In addition to the optical system, the Touch Probe models of the Quick Vision range comprise touch-trigger probes for contact measurement.

In addition to the optical measuring system, these TP versions are equipped with a contact sensor. Measurements can be carried out on workpieces that cannot be acquired with a purely optical system alone. Therefore, the user is able to choose the strategy that is appropriate for each measuring task.

The innovative measurement function PFF (Points from Focus) by Mitutoyo makes it possible to measure the workpiece's topography with vision measuring instruments without having to use an additional sensor. Instead, this technology is a purely software-based solution with numerous advantages with regard to the time required, reliability of measurement and flexibility.

Small Tool Instruments and Data Transfer Systems

by Mitutoyo

Mitutoyo, the full-range manufacturer of measuring instruments,

once again upgrades its Linear Height LH-600 2D height gage, which, with its excellent precision, is already considered a reference model in its class.

With an admissible length measurement deviation of (1.1+0.6L/600) µm, the LH-600E height gage by Mitutoyo offers an excellent level of precision amongst all systems of its category on offer worldwide. All functions required for one- and two-dimensional height measurements are included.

At EMO 2013, small tool instruments supplier Mitutoyo presents the new generation of its successful ID-S indicator in a battery-powered version.

This type of digital indicator features a simple design but meets all the requirements of a reliable digital indicator.

Mitutoyo has expanded its range of solar-powered and energy-saving small tool instruments by another interesting innovation: the solar-powered indicator ID-S.

The solar-powered indicator ID-S already works starting from an illumination intensity of just 40 lux. Just by way of comparison: according to workplace guidelines, an illumination intensity over 300 lux is recommended for working on machine tools. Much more than the Solar ID-S needs for operation.

The new digital outside micrometer by Mitutoyo features outstanding accuracy and resolution.

The "ABSOLUTE micrometer MDH" works with an enormous precision of 0.6 µm (MPEJ according ISO 3611, 2010) – compared to 2 µm in a standard micrometer by Mitutoyo.

No less impressive is this innovative device's digital step value. It is 0.1 µm, whereas digital micrometers usually feature a digital step value of 1 µm.

The USB Input Tool Direct by Mitutoyo allows for a completely straightforward and highly comfortable transfer of measurement data via direct USB connection. Together with the software tool USB ITPAK 2.0, users are offered even more possibilities.

New Measuring System by Mitutoyo: MACH-Ko-ga-me

Agile 3D CNC Measuring System

for Flexible Use in Inspection Tasks

Flexible, agile and intelligent. These are the attributes with which measurement instrument manufacturer Mitutoyo characterises its new system concept MACH-Ko-ga-me, which had its German debut at Control 2013.

Mitutoyo MACH-Ko-ga-me is an extremely compact 3D CNC system for production-oriented measuring that is versatile in its configuration options.

With extremely compact dimensions of only 376 millimetres in width and 432 millimetres in depth, Mitutoyo MACH-Ko-ga-me is suited for numerous applications on workpieces, for example from the medical field and aerospace engineering.

As a separate unit, the absolute measurement system MACH-Ko-ga-me offers a variety of installation and positioning options - for example on portals, devices, stands or columns. The MACH-Ko-ga-me can be used as a stand-alone solution as well as integrated into production systems.

Mitutoyo's MACH Ko-ga-me optionally works as a scanning or touch-trigger system. It offers a measuring area of 120 x 120 x 80 millimetres at a resolution of 0.02 µm and a length measurement deviation of 2.0 + 5L/1000 µm. The traversing speed is 340 mm/s, acceleration is 6,750 mm/s.

Coordinate Measuring Machine CRYSTA-Apex S by Mitutoyo

High-Speed Scans with Great Accuracy

With the models of the CRYSTA-Apex S series, Mitutoyo continues CRYSTA-Apex, its successful line of coordinate measuring machines, into a new generation.

Compared with the previous series, CRYSTA-Apex C, the current models of the series feature a significantly higher scanning rate with an extremely high accuracy. This is made possible by the new UC400 controller.

CRYSTA-Apex S is available in a total of 15 versions with sizes of 500, 700, 900 and 1,200 millimetres (X-axis). The 1,600 and 2,000 millimetre sizes will follow by the end of the year.

These CNC-controlled coordinate measuring machines, which were designed and built especially for the demands of the European market, are exemplary in their versatility and wide range of applications. With their capabilities and comprehensive equipment, they offer much more than usual in this class. Thus, they set new standards in establishing CNC-supported quality control.

SurfaceMeasure by Mitutoyo

Laser Scanners for

Coordinate Measuring Machines

Mitutoyo presents "SurfaceMeasure", a high-powered laser scanner for use with 3D coordinate measuring machines. The automatic adaptation of the laser intensity to the scanned surface is the highlight of the system.

For EMO 2013, Mitutoyo adds the new model SM610 with a large working distance to the series. It facilitates measurements in deeper regions of a workpiece, e.g. in housings.

The SurfaceMeasure laser scanner is primarily suitable for measuring tasks in which many points have to be recorded quickly and accurately, for example, if the recorded point cloud is to be used for preparing CAD models (reverse engineering). This laser scanner is the right choice also for checking freeform surfaces against an already existing data set.

SurfaceMeasure has a line width of 60 millimetres and records 75,000 points per second, at a point distance of 60 µm. These parameters enable the measuring time to be reduced considerably compared with the conventional contact measurement methods – and with increased detail at the same time.

The automatic adaptation of the laser intensity to the scanned surface is the prominent feature of the new Mitutoyo scanner. The laser is thus readjusted already during the scanning process if colours, materials or lighting conditions are changing. No manual intervention is required.

Due to this capability, the use of sprays can be dispensed with to a large extent. This makes measuring even more efficient because workpieces now do not have to be coloured or cleaned subsequently. An even more decisive factor is that the accuracy of the system is thus reliably maintained.

SurfaceMeasure can be integrated into existing systems without any trouble, and can also be used together with contact sensors. The sensors are automatically combined in a measuring program through a changing rack. The workpiece can thus be aligned prior to scanning with contact sensors. This is a decisive factor in RPS alignment, for example, in which the final installation position of the components is simulated with a few defined points. Freeform surfaces and regular geometries can then be recorded with the substituted laser scanner and evaluated by means of the MSURF software.

SURFTEST Probe by Mitutoyo:

New Roughness Sensor for

Coordinate Measuring Machines

Surftest Probe is the name Mitutoyo gives its roughness sensor for use in coordinate measuring machines presented at EMO 2013.

SURFTEST Probe is a sensor for roughness measurement on coordinate measuring machines. Mitutoyo's proven Surftest roughness tester technology is thus transferred to a substantial extent to 3D coordinate measuring.

In combination with the extraordinarily compact PH10 probe head series, SURFTEST Probe is ideally suited also for use on medium-sized and small measuring machines - in contrast to similar combinations on the market that can only be accommodated in large CMMs.

The fact that the automatic replacement of the SURFTEST Probe sensor through a changing rack can be carried out with great ease is another advantage. Scanning and contact CMM measurements can thus be combined with roughness measurements without any interruption of the process flow and without reclamping.

Depending on the intended use, SURFTEST Probe additionally provides for switching to different detectors, such as for gear wheels, small bores or grooves. Here, Mitutoyo makes use of the proven technology of the extremely successful SJ-310 series.

The purpose-built evaluation software SURFPAK-SP is based on FORMTRACEPAK, the tried-and-tested form measuring software.

New 3D Measuring Software MAFIS-Express by Mitutoyo

Quick Programming

on Blades and Blisks

At EMO 2013, Mitutoyo presents MAFIS-Express, a

3D version of its powerful software module for inspecting and evaluating turbine blades.

MAFIS-Express allows the programming of scans on entire blades and even blisks with simple routines. Thus, it expands the capabilities of MAFIS, the basic module for two dimensions, by another dimension - while at the same time reducing programming time considerably.

In MAFIS Express, all necessary data can be input quickly by means of easy-to-understand pictograms. The measured values can be displayed both in clearly arranged lists as well as in easy-to-read graphs.

MeasurLink7 by Mitutoyo in Four New Editions

High-End Software for

Statistical Process Control

At EMO 2013, Mitutoyo presents the current version of its high-end software MeasurLink for statistical process control. The new MeasurLink 7 is available in four versions.

MeasurLink7 serves for detecting, analysing and managing measurement data and attributive features in real time.

MeasurLink7 supports digital measuring equipment, from calipers to vision measurement systems or coordinate measuring machines. After manual acquisition, even the data from analogue devices can be integrated into the process environment without any trouble.

Its open program architecture even enables MeasurLink7 by Mitutoyo to also acquire measurement results from other manufacturers' devices and to integrate them into the process flow. Thus, all options for a measurement data-based quality management are open to the user.

In practical use, almost all digital measuring instruments in a company can be combined into a single quality analysis system with MeasurLink7. The data acquired with a variety of measuring devices are pooled centrally, evaluated as needed and efficiently documented. The data pool thus obtained is then available to all users in the company for optimizing quality management. In this case, whether the measuring devices "networked" with MeasurLink are concentrated at a single company facility or distributed to different sites is not relevant.

MeasurLink7 has a modular structure and offers the following options: Real-Time Professional, Real-Time Professional 3D, Process Analyzer Professional und Process Manager.

Real-Time Professional serves for acquiring and filtering data. In the process, users can be guided to the respective measurement site through integrated images. The version Real-Time Professional 3D additionally offers the option of displaying measurment results directly on the CAD data set. The measured values are displayed in control charts, flow charts or histograms, for example.

MeasurLink Process Analyzer Professional was developed especially for the analysis of already existing measurement data. The measured values in the data base can be filtered and merged for this purpose.

MeasurLink Process Manager serves for displaying the currently running processes. With this option, quality management or the production manager is provided with a quick overview of critical processes and can promptly initiate the necessary steps in case of errors.

Surface Roughness Testers by Mitutoyo:

Very Simple Intuitive Navigation

And a Generous 14.5 cm Display

As an example for the successful SURFTEST surface roughness testers series, Mitutoyo presents at EMO 2013 the skid system SJ-310 and reference plane measuring systems of the SJ-410 series, among other systems.

The skid system SJ-310 is available in three versions: Standard, Transverse scanning (S-Type) and Retract (R-Typ). The SJ-310 permits two different calculations to be carried out with only a single measurement. Due to the separate drive unit, measurements are possible even in areas that are difficult to access - even overhead measurements are not a problem.

The models of the SJ-410 series - SURFTEST SJ-411 and SJ-412 - are high-performance reference plane systems for determining the primary profile P, the surface roughness R and the waviness W.

With a total of 46 parameters for roughness analysis as standard, they offer an enormous range of application. SJ-411 and SJ-412, like the SJ-310 model, take into account parameters according to

DIN EN ISO, VDA and according to JIS, ANSI and MOTIF.

Additional highlights of Mitutoyo's SJ-410 reference plane measuring systems include the compensation for radii and inclinations as well as the optional autoset function. This causes the probe to automatically traverse to the centre of the measuring area on the workpiece and to then start the measurement.

Other features worth mentioning include the digital inclination adjustment (D.A.T. function), the comprehensive range of styli and accessories and the possibility of calibrating five probes independently of each other.

FORMTRACER SV-C3200 and SV-C4500

Dual-Stylus Systems for Contour

and Surface Roughness Measuring

With two different types of stylus systems, Mitutoyo documents its competence in contour and surface roughness measuring at EMO 2013. The models FORMTRACER SV-C3200 and SV-C4500, are both "two-in-one" solutions with two different feeding units for measuring contours and surfaces, are featured at the exhibition.

Mitutoyo's FORMTRACERS are designed as real "two-in-one" solutions. It unites two complete measuring processes in a single, space-saving system, providing the entire spectrum of surface and contour measuring.

As standard, both FORMTRACER’s comprise two separate detectors that can be used alternately for separate surface and contour measuring. The FORMTRACER SV-C3200 and SV-C4500 also comprise a contour measuring arm with a magnetic connection by three locking points - thanks to this solution, there is no need for the usual process of screwing in a probe. A substantial advantage with regard to safety and time in everyday measuring tasks. On top of that the contour measuring unit of the FORMTRACER SV-C4500 is equipped with a double stylus arm for combined upward / downward measurements.

In both systems, inspection results are evaluated and documented by Mitutoyo's FORMTRACEPAK software.

Form Measuring Instrument ROUNDTEST RA-2200:

Precise Measurement of Rotationally

Symmetrical Workpieces

ROUNDTEST measuring instruments from Mitutoyo represent sophisticated solutions for all modern form measuring requirements in production, the testing room and the laboratory. Their comprehensive range of models offers exact configuration for accurately measuring rotationally symmetrical workpieces. The series' newest model is the compact ROUNDTEST RA-2200.

This instrument, which is available in two sizes, is especially designed for automatic series inspection and serves for quickly and reliably determining deviations from form and position. Already in its basic form, it provides for a convincing performance due to its versatile design.

The ROUNDTEST RA-2200 is available in two designs. The basis for both versions can be a support with a highly effective vibration-damping system. In configuration I, the support is supplemented with a side-table which offers room for a computer, monitor, keyboard and printer. This version is primarily intended for use in the testing room or the laboratory.

Configuration II does not include this additional work table, but the support comprises an accommodating column for the monitor. With this particularly compact and space-saving architecture, the ROUNDTEST RA-2200 is eminently suitable for use in the production environment with its often limited available space.

Standard equipment includes a stylus system holder that can be locked at three positions. This makes it possible to position the stylus system even on workpieces which were difficult to access so far.

Centering and leveling in the ROUNDTEST RA-2200 can take place automatically - but also manually on the high-precision DAT table (Digital Adjustment Table).

The form measuring instrument ROUNDTEST RA-2200 is supplied as standard with Mitutoyo’s high-performance ROUNDPAK software, which also runs under Windows 7.

Free Download of Mitutoyo Software:

Quick direct access to a large number of language versions is another practice-oriented feature.

USB Communication Tool is available for download, free of charge, at mitutoyo.de and mitutoyo.eu in the areas Downloads, Software Tools.

Quick Vision Touch Probe by Mitutoyo:

Probe Systems supplement

Vision Measurement

Mitutoyo’s vision measuring instruments range includes also models comprising touch systems. In addition to the optical system, the Touch Probe models of the Quick Vision range comprise touch-trigger probes for contact measurement.

Quick Vision 3D CNC vision systems are especially designed for use in metrology laboratories and in the production environment. Here, they carry out fully automatic measurements primarily in medium-sized and large series.

The technological highlights of the system include, on the one hand, the clear-image optical system and the enhanced edge detection by surface structure analysis. On the other hand, there is the triangle-pattern projection for focussing on low-contrast surfaces as well as the high drive-speed and acceleration.

Additional models with multi-sensor features provide the series, which so far already comprises 17 versions, with even more areas of use. In addition to the optical measuring system, these TP versions are equipped with a contact sensor. Measurements can thus be carried out on workpieces that cannot be acquired with a purely optical sys-tem alone. Therefore, the user is able to choose the strategy that is appropriate for each measuring task.

TP versions are available for the Quick Vision models QV Elf, QV Apex, QV Hyper and QV Accel. They are optionally equipped with a Renishaw TP20 or TP 200 probe and stylus. A tool changer is optionally available for both versions.

As standard, all Quick Vision multi-sensor systems are controlled with the QVPAK8000 software. It comprises all the extensive features of the optical software QVPAK, enhanced with additional stylus-related functions.

PFF (Points from Focus) by Mitutoyo:

Innovative Measuring Process for

the Surface Topography

The innovative measurement function PFF (Points from Focus) by Mitutoyo makes it possible to measure the workpiece's topography with vision measuring instruments without having to use an additional sensor.

PFF is the abbreviation of Points from Focus and enables the measurement of the workpiece's topography without having to use an additional sensor. Instead, this technology is a purely software-based solution with numerous advantages with regard to the time required, reliability of measurement and flexibility.

For example, Mitutoyo's system requires no sensor change and thus no accessing of a changing rack. Rather, the instrument can remain at the measuring position and there "kill two birds with one stone": the optical determination of a coordinate system and surface topography recording.

In the process, PFF by Mitutoyo permits the acquisition of microstructures on the surface of the workpiece with a resolution of 50 to 100 nanometres in three dimensions and evaluate them from a measuring standpoint.

Using only a single focusing movement, PFF evaluates every pixel on the CCD chip with regard to its contrast value and generates a three-dimensional image of the workpiece surface in the visual range of the sensor. This three-dimensional image can then be evaluated very flexibly, depending on the user's task.

In the case of countersunk recesses, for example, it is possible to record a point cloud on the conical surface by means of the software function and, based on that, position a section through the conical surface. The exact cone angle can then be determined on that basis.

Another decisive advantage of such a PFF sensor solution by Mitutoyo: It can be used to perform series of measurements and even palette measurements entirely without any complicated clamping mechanisms. All aligment functions can be carried out via the image sensor so that entire palettes can be fed through and evaluated without requiring any personnel. All this requires considerably less time compared with solutions comprising two separate sensors.

New Height Gage Linear Height by Mitutoyo

Large-Scale Colour Display and

and Highest Level of Precision

Mitutoyo, the full-range manufacturer of measuring instruments, once again upgrades its Linear Height LH-600 2D height gage, which, with its excellent precision, is already considered a reference model in its class.

With an admissible length measurement deviation of (1.1+0.6L/600) µm, the LH-600E height gage by Mitutoyo offers an excellent level of precision amongst all systems of its category on offer worldwide. All data processing functions required for one- and two-dimensional height measurements and their analysis are included.

The new Linear Height LH-600 generation now presented by Mitutoyo is provided with a generous 14.5 cm TFT-LCD colour display, which replaces the previous monochrome LCD display. The new, remarkably high-contrast LCD colour display increases ease of use even more. This also applies to the clear layout of the keypad for all system settings, measurement operation functions and parts program preparation.

Many basic statistics functions are already integrated into the device. In addition, the RS-232C data output permits an external evaluation of measurement data with SPC software on a PC. The system itself offers sufficient storage capacity for 50 measuring programs or 60,000 measurements.

In addition, the unlimited transfer of measured values and parts programs onto USB flash drives of any storage capacity is now also possible.

New Indicator ABSOLUTE ID-S by Mitutoyo:

Compact, Simple and a Battery Life

of up to 20,000 hours

At EMO 2013, Mitutoyo, the global leader in small tool instruments, presents the new generation of its successful ID-S indicator in a battery-powered version.

The current versions are equipped with an even bigger display with a perfect readability and a character height of nine millimetres. The high-quality die-cast aluminium housing, which replaces the previous plastic body, is another new feature.

This type of digital indicator features a simple design but meets all the requirements of a reliable digital indicator.

The enormous battery life of the ID-S indicator is truly remarkable. Mitutoyo gives values of 18,000 to 20,000 operating hours for measurements in real-life conditions.

The new generation of ID-S indicators is available in three versions: with a resolution of ten micrometres and conforming to IP 42, one micrometer resolution and conforming to IP 42, and one micrometer resolution and conforming to IP53.

There are also three options for lifting the indicators. They include a lifting lever, lifting knob or a cable release.

As standard all versions are shipped with a factory certificate and are of course equipped with Mitutoyo's ABSOLUTE system. With the ABSOLUTE system, zero-setting is required only once when the batteries are inserted. Then, every measurement is performed based on this origin automatically and always - regardless of whether or not the device was switched off in the interim.

Other temporary origins can also be set, for example for comparison measurements, and a return to the initial settings requires only the simple press of a key (incremental measurement).

Solar-powered Indicator ID-S by Mitutoyo:

Ready to Operate Already at 40 Lux

Mitutoyo has expanded its range of solar-powered and energy-saving small tool instruments by another interesting innovation: the solar-powered indicator ID-S.

The solar-powered indicator ID-S already works starting from an illumination intensity of just 40 lux. Just by way of comparison: according to workplace guidelines, an illumination intensity over 300 lux is recommended for working on machine tools. Much more than the Solar ID-S needs for operation.

If the illumination intensity drops below the 40-lux limit, the indicator is supplied with power by the integrated capacitor - for up to 210 minutes, provided the capacitor was allowed to charge completely at an illumination intensity exceeding 40 lux.

The new solar-powered indicator ID-S by Mitutoyo is available in two versions. One version provides a measuring range of 12.7 millimetres at a resolution of one-hundredth of a millimetre, the other a measuring range of 12.7 millimetres at a resolution of one-thousandth of a millimetre.

Of course, this small tool also incorporates the ABSOLUTE

Technology by Mitutoyo. With this feature, the origin needs to be set only once and then remains the absolute zero position. A considerable advantage with regard to ease-of-use and efficiency in your daily work.

Finally, the environmental aspect of solar-powered design should not be underestimated. By dispensing with batteries completely, there is no problem as regards their disposal. Thus, the new solar indicator ID-S joins the broad Mitutoyo product range of solar-powered calipers, which has already been available for years.

New High-Precision Outside Micrometer:

Unprecedented Capacities

The new digital outside micrometer by Mitutoyo features outstanding accuracy and resolution.

The "ABSOLUTE Micrometer MDH" works with an enormous precision of 0.6 µm (MPEJ according ISO 3611, 2010) – compared to 2 µm of a standard micrometer by Mitutoyo.

No less impressive is this innovative device's digital step value. It is 0.1 µm, whereas digital micrometers usually feature a digital step value of 1 µm.

Thus, this highly accurate digital micrometer MDH is ideally suited for checking polished parts and components with particularly narrow tolerances, as well as in all cases where capabilities must be demonstrated and proved by measurement.

The device has a measuring range of 0 to 25 millimetres; the measuring force is limited by a newly developed ratchet mechanism to between 7 and 9 newtons - as compared to 5 to 10 newtons in the standard micrometer. The measuring surfaces have a diameter of 3.2 millimetres.

As is customary in the digital hand-held measuring instruments by Mitutoyo, this top-of-the-line model also includes a Digimatic data output. This highly precise micrometer also incorporates Mitutoyo's

ABSOLUTE technology.

USB Input Tool Direct with New Capabilities:

Simplified Measurement Data Transfer

by Direct Connection

The "USB Input Tool Direct" by Mitutoyo allows for a completely straightforward and highly comfortable transfer of measurement data via direct USB connection. Together with the software tool USB ITPAK 2.0, users are offered even more possibilities.

This innovative interface system's great advantage is the fact that, on the one hand, it enables a digital measuring device to be directly connected to the computer as a so-called human interface device (HID). That is, without prior installation of a software or driver. The measuring device is automatically recognized as such by the computer's device manager, its measurement values are interpreted as "keyboard inputs". Moreover, cascading is possible through a standard USB hub.

On the other hand, connection as a virtual COM port (VCP) with a firmly assigned COM port in Windows is possible. This is an advantage particularly if several measuring devices are connected to a computer through a hub.

In other applications, the new version 2.0 of the software tool USB ITPAK allows measurement values to be transferred in text format, or permits the comfortable creation of log files in Microsoft Excel. In the process, the software completely organizes the Excel table, i.e., all transferred measurement values are entered in pre-defined target cells.

Compared to its previous version, USB-ITPAK 2.0 was enhanced by adding wireless data transfer capability also from Mitutoyo's wireless system U-WAVE.

Users are now provided with the possibility of collecting values in predefined Microsoft Excel tables - regardless of whether they originate from the Mitutoyo wireless system (U-WAVE) or are transmitted via USB cable (USB Input Tool Direct).

The program is compatible with Windows XP and Windows 7 in both the 32 bit and 64 bit versions, as well as with Windows 8. The number of supported languages was also increased to now 15 languages.

Moreover, USB ITPAK 2.0 offers the possiblity to automatically add the date and time to the measured value. A timed read-in of measured values (time loop) can also be realized with the new software.

USB ITPAK 2.0 is available as an option with the USB Input Tool

direct signal cables and/or Mitutoyo's wireless system U-WAVE.
