This is where your child gets to pursue their own learning. With your permission, they will research an area of interest to them, whatever that may be, as long as you approve. This may consist of topics they may not ordinarily get to learn about in school. For example, your child may love ladybugs, football, or LeBron James, then you would encourage them to research facts and find out as much as they could about ladybugs, football, or LeBron James. You might even allow them to create a Powerpoint presentation including the interesting facts they found. Then, once completed select a date together for “Genius Hour.” This is when your child will become the expert and share/present their findings to the family. Imagine how completing this task will help them in the very near future as they move into their upper elementary years… I have found that when students work on areas of interest to them, they are much more engaged in their learning. ................
