by the Legislature, monitors

water quality. If you own a

boat and have a few hours

each month to volunteer, you

might be a candidate for the

lake-monitoring program.

Lakewatch trains volunteers

to collect water and algae

samples and water-clarity

information that document a

lakes nutrient levels. Baseline data are established,

providing residents and

water managers with a useful tool for managing lakes. In

return for participation,

volunteers receive training in

monitoring procedures,

sampling materials, annual

reports of their monthly

data, quarterly educational

newsletters, access to

aquatic sciences experts at

the University of Florida, and

invitations to regularly

scheduled Florida Lakewatch

(Serving Health Insurance

counseling sites in Osceola

County. SHINE provides free

counseling and information

Swimming Lesson: Waterparks, pools, and other

aquatic facilities around the

world will host local lessons

simultaneously at 10 a.m.

(Eastern Standard Time) in

an attempt to break the

Guinness World Record. St.

Cloud Parks and Recreations

aquatics staff is coordinating

the citys participation in

event, which teaches beginners how to be safer in and

around the water. The lesson

plan includes safety, entry,

breathing/submerging,

floating, and strokes. All ages

break the current Guinness

World Record for the largest

simultaneous swimming
