5E Student Lesson Planning Template

Teacher:

Date:

Subject / grade level: 6th Science

Materials: Chart Paper, Markers, dixy cups, baggies, tape, water

Essential Standards and Clarifying Objectives

Water continually cycles among land, ocean, and atmosphere via transpiration, evaporation, condensation and crystallization, and precipitation, as well as

downhill flows on land. (MS-ESS2-4)

Modeling in 6–8 builds on K–5 experiences and progresses to developing, using, and revising models to describe, test, and predict more abstract phenomena and

design systems.

Develop and use a model to describe phenomena. (MS-ESS2-6)

Develop a model to describe unobservable mechanisms. (MS-ESS2-4)

Cause and Effect

Cause and effect relationships may be used to predict phenomena in natural or designed systems. (MS-ESS2-5)

Lesson objective(s):

Students will determine how water cycles among land, ocean, and the atmosphere

Differentiation strategies to meet diverse learner needs: Hands on, Videos footage, group collaboration, close templates for writing in science.

ENGAGEMENT

T chart: What do you know, what questions do you have?

EXPLORATION

How does water cycle among land, ocean, and the atmosphere?

WATER CYCLE [pic]

MATERIALS:

pixie cup

baggy

tape

water

PROCESS:

Put a small amount of water in the pixie cup.

Put the pixie cup in a baggy and close the baggy.

Tape the baggy with the cup of water inside of it to a window that the sun comes in.

What happens? With the heat of the sun, the water evaporates from the cup which you cannot see and condenses on the inside of the bag into little water

droplets. These droplets eventually drip down to the bottom of the bag.
