School Spelling Bees

• All information needed to conduct your school’s spelling bee is included in this packet of information.

• Review the spelling bee rules. The Spell It information may be accessed using your school’s login and password at . For your convenience a copy of your login has been enclosed for your use (additionally, you were sent this information from Scripps in an email).

• Classroom contests may begin immediately. The bee is for students in grades 3 - 8. (Note: Students must not have repeated 4th, 5th, 6th, 7th or 8th grades.) A master copy of the spelling bee certificates are placed on the Secondary English blog for you to copy and distribute to the appropriate students.

• The school spelling bee must be completed by Thursday, December 19, 2013. To determine the school winner, we suggest having the grade level winners compete in the library or other location with the pronouncer, judges, and parents present. Another option is to invite the classmates of the grade level winners to attend the school spelling bee. Please keep it simple. Guard instructional time. A formal school program is not recommended.

• For the HCPS 2014 School Spelling Bee Winner/Runner Up Form, we are asking each spelling bee contact to fill out the winner/runner up information in Google Docs. A link to fill out this information is available on the Secondary English Blog (see below for the blog link). This information must be entered into Google Docs by Friday, December 20, 2013.

• Information for the parents regarding the 2014 Spelling Bee will also be also be on the blogs for contacts to complete once your school winners are identified.
