Please keep this document somewhere where you can refer to it each week. Segment 2 includes Modules 4, 5 and 6. Each Segment of the Course Pace Chart contains floating weeks off. These weeks can be used as you need them. Taking time off from course work is an individual choice and is not required. Please discuss your plans for taking time off with Mrs. Blue before you take the time off. Be sure to pick a day and time that fit your schedule that you can dedicate to completing your language arts work. Remember always read EVERY page in each lesson. Take notes. Follow the lessons in order and PLEASE do not skip around! What is the Collaboration Assignment? This is an opportunity to work with your classmates! This collaboration assignment may be completed ANYTIME during your segment, before you take your segment exam.To review the collaboration opportunities available in each segment, select the Collaboration tab on the main page of the course. Attending a live lesson is the recommended activity. What will I learn this segment?Module 4 will cover how to analyze perspectives, look at historical texts, and understand allusions and propaganda.Module 5 is a narrative study that will require you to read a short story or novel. You must choose a book from the provided list in 5.00.Module 6 is a writing module. The focus is on how to write an Argumentation essay. It will require you to choose a topic, research that topic and write a complete effective argument essay. What do I do each week?Remember that in eSchool, you are required to turn in work each week. Failure to complete work every 7 days may result in you being withdrawn from the course. Use the pace guide below to help you stay on track. You can always work ahead, as long as you have passed all of your assessments and are following the lessons in order. Grades and re-submitting your workBe sure to always check your grade book to see your scores on your assignments. Also, this is where Mrs. Blue will provide you with feedback. Because writing is a learning process, most assignments can be resubmitted for a higher grade if you make the changes suggested in the feedback! You can resubmit assignment through the grade book. If an assignment is RED meaning you did not pass, please do not move ahead. Try the assessment again and/or call Mrs. Blue. How do I complete a Discussion Based Assessment or a DBA?After you have completed all of the assignments in the Module, go to Mrs. Blue’s scheduler and choose a time for your DBA. Mrs. Blue will ask you to talk about what you learned in each lesson in the module. Make sure you are PREPARED for this call. You will want to review all of your lessons and assignments and be ready to speak like an expert on the module topics. It is okay to have your notes, and it is okay not to remember everything, but it is not okay to remember nothing.
