They will be expected to use the resources (class notebook, textbook, vocabulary, and peer interaction) available to them in order to solve a problem before asking for immediate help from the teacher. These skills will enable them to become problem solvers for the future.Homework:Homework will be given to reinforce the material being taught and will usually be given on a daily basis. It will be checked for completion and accuracy and in most cases be worth ten points. All correct answers will be given the following day in class and students may ask questions at this time. Occasionally, an assignment will be given over a longer period of time and will be worth more points. Problem of the Week:Every week a ‘Problem of the Week’ will be posted on Monday. Students have the opportunity to complete and turn in the problem by Friday. If the answer is correct and they show all work (using words, pictures, or numbers), they will receive 3 extra points on their next quiz. Warm-Ups/Journals:Students will complete 3-5 problems at the beginning of class most days. These should be completed and kept in their math binder.Quizzes and Tests:Quizzes and tests will be given on each chapter or unit of study during a nine week grading period. The quizzes will be given so the student and teacher can identify possible problems before taking the final test. All quizzes and tests will be announced and a review will be given in class the day prior to a quiz or test.Notebook:Students are required to keep a three ring binder for math. The binder will be divided into sections for warm-ups, notes, homework, classwork, and quizzes. This notebook will serve as a valuable resource for students to consistently use with homework and studying for quizzes/tests. It should be organized according to the standards given in class and will be checked and graded periodically throughout the year.Absences:When students are absent, it is their responsibility to complete all assignments for the period of time they were absent. Make-up assignments are due within a week of the absence. All assignments are posted in the classroom. Grades:Students’ grades are determined by the total number of points they have earned during a nine week grading period. All grades can be seen on I-NOW and will include:* Homework * Journal Entries* Cooperative Learning Activities* Classwork* Quizzes * Tests ................
