Mr. Dillon’s

7th Grade U.S. History (2015-16)

Welcome to Mr. Dillon’s 7th grade United States History class. I am very excited about our upcoming year here together at Blue Ridge Middle School. I hope to enlighten you about the most progressive time period in United States History. I would like to take this opportunity to introduce some items that will be of importance to this class.

I. Textbook

The 7th grade textbook we are using this year is called The American Journey. Students will have access to a hard-copy textbook in class, and will use the online version to complete homework assignments as required. If students would like to keep a hard-copy textbook at home, they may sign for one from Mr. Dillon. Textbooks kept at home will have to be returned next June.

IV. Grading

a. Mastery – 60% (unit tests, research papers & large projects)

b. Progressing – 40% (quizzes, classwork, homework)

c. Formative – 0% (checks on learning)

V. Make-Up Work

Whenever a student is absent, regardless of the reason, a reasonable amount of time, consistent with the length of the absence will be given to make up the missed work. (See student handbook)

VI. Late Work

Homework will be accepted late, however, work turned in late is not eligible for full credit. If unforeseen circumstances prevent the student from completing an assignment, then that student will be granted extra time to complete the assignment for full credit. Projects, papers or alternate assignments may be submitted late; however the student will not be eligible for full credit.

VII. Test Re-do’s

Students may only "re-do" unit tests. To be eligible for a "re-do", a student must have earned a 69% (D+) or below on the test and the highest grade they may earn from the "re-do" is a 70% (C-).

VIII. Extra Help

I am available to help students during their Resource block. Students should see Mr. Dillon in advance if they need additional help during Resource.

IX. Communication

Parents and students may contact me by calling the school (540-751-2520) or by the email address below. In addition, parents and students are highly encouraged to check Mr. Dillon’s VISION page to verify homework assignments, quiz and test dates, and upcoming projects.

Please review this letter with your parents and keep it in a handy location so that you may refer to it throughout the year. I look forward to working with you and expect another great year at Blue Ridge!

Sincerely,

Mr. Dillon
