1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions section.

o Drain the transaxle fluid.

1. Remove or disconnect the following:

o Battery and battery tray

o Battery brace

o Air cleaner and intake hoses

o Select and shift cable cotter pins and the cable ends from the transaxle

o Back-up light switch harness and position it aside

o Speedometer electrical connector, from the transaxle assembly

o Starter

2. Using Special Tool 7137 or C-4852, support the engine assembly.

o Rear roll stopper mounting bracket

o Transaxle mount bracket

o Upper transaxle mounting bolts

o Front wheels

o Under cover

o Cotter pin and tie rod end from the steering knuckle

o Stabilizer bar link from the damper fork

o Damper fork from the lateral lower control arm

o Lateral lower arm, compression lower arm and lower ball joints from the steering knuckle

o Halfshafts from the transaxle and secure aside

o Clutch release cylinder connection and move aside without disconnecting the hydraulic line

o Bell housing cover

o Engine front roll stopper through-bolt

o Centermember

3. Support the transaxle, using a transmission jack, and remove the transaxle lower coupling bolt.

NOTE

The coupling bolt threads from the engine side, into the transaxle, and is located just above the halfshaft

opening.

4. Slide the transaxle rearward and carefully lower it from the vehicle.

To install:

1. Install or connect the following:

o Transaxle and torque the transaxle-to-engine bolts to 70 ft. lbs. (95 Nm)

o Bell housing cover and torque the bolts to 84 inch lbs. (9 Nm)

o Centermember and torque the front mounting bolts to 65 ft. lbs. (88 Nm) and the rear bolt to 54 ft. lbs. (73 Nm)

o Front engine roll stopper through-bolt and lightly tighten. Once the full weight of the engine is on the mounts, torque the bolt to 42 ft. lbs. (57 Nm).

o Clutch release cylinder

o Halfshafts using new circlips

WARNING

When installing the halfshaft, keep the inboard joint straight in relation to the axle, to avoid damaging

the oil seal lip of the transaxle, with the serrated part of the halfshaft.

o Tie rod and ball joints to the steering knuckle. Torque the ball joint self-locking nuts to 48 ft. lbs. (65 Nm). Torque the tie rod end nut to 21 ft. lbs. (28 Nm) and secure with a new cotter pin.

o Damper fork to the lower control arm and torque the through-bolt to 65 ft. lbs. (88 Nm)

o Stabilizer link to the damper fork and torque the self-locking nut to 29 ft. lbs. (39 Nm)

o Under cover

o Wheels

o Transaxle mount bracket to the transaxle and torque the nuts to 32 ft. lbs. (43 Nm)

o Rear roll stopper mounting bracket

1. Remove the engine support. Tighten the transaxle mount through-bolt to 51 ft. lbs. (69 Nm) and tighten the front engine roll stopper through-bolt.

o Upper transaxle mounting bolts and torque them to 35 ft. lbs. (48 Nm)

o Starter

o Back-up light switch and speedometer connector

o Select and shift cables and new cotter pins

o Air cleaner and air intake hose

o Battery tray and battery

o Battery stay

2. Be sure the vehicle is level, and refill the transaxle with Mopar® MS9417 MTX fluid, part number 4773167.

3. Check the transaxle for proper operation. Be sure the reverse lights come ON when in reverse.
