CHESTATEE ELEMENTARY

FALL FESTIVAL/80TH BIRTHDAY CELEBRATION

THANK YOU EVERYBODY!!!!

Our event was held on October 15th and attended by several hundred Chestatee family members.

The day started with Mrs. Grier’s Bash Dash 5k and 1 Mile Fun Run for the kids. Forsyth County Board Member Anne Crowe ran in the 5k and Dr. Buster Evans was there to check out the event.

Forsyth County News was on hand to cover the Museum put together by Mrs. Roper. The Museum contained numerous artifacts, storyboards showing the multi-generational family history of several current Chestatee teachers, and an incredible DVD covering our 80 year history. Mrs. Roper has copies of the DVD for sale, please contact her to purchase one.

Teachers and parents galore made the Midway a success with the children! Deb Mason and her cafeteria crew ran the Cake Walk - which was one of the most popular events! It would not have been possible without countless donations from Chestatee parents – thank you to all who brought in baked goods!

North Forsyth High School Football Boosters provided yummy food and members of the Football Team ran a very popular Football Throw.

Ms. Anne Marie Sasser provided her DJ services and her Little Mill cheerleaders gave demos to our girls.

Amy Kruger and Genie Davis manned the ever popular Carmel Apple table. Stacy Gregar hawked Spirit Wear – including our new Water Bottle ($3) and Pencils ($.50) commemorating our 80 years of education. These items are still available – contact us if you are interested in purchasing either item.

Thanks to Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office for opening their stables and coming out to give Stranger Danger talks.

Thanks to Kinsey Farms for bringing pumpkins to sell even though it is their busiest time of the year. Thanks to Warbington Farms for the Petting Zoo – the children loved it!

The event would not have been possible without generous donations from many businesses: DOJO & TNT Dance Academy, State Farm Insurance, Harry Norman Real Estate, Flower Cleaning Services, Lange Signs, Costco Wholesale Warehouse, Donut Connection, Ingles, Publix, Kroger, Lone Star Stables, Steamers Coffee, and Creations Bakery.

And last but not least, thank you to my fellow PTA Board Members for being there in force throughout the planning and execution of the event to do whatever needed to be done.

It was a lot of fun putting it together and I’m looking forward to planning an even better event next year.

November is a time for gratitude. There are many things to be thankful for at Chestatee. The spirit of community and fun we had last month at our Fall Festival was wonderful. The hard work and dedication of our students is outstanding. The determination and caring of our teachers in partnership with our parents creates a very supportive environment for learning. As a principal, I am grateful for all of our blessings.

This month we will be given the opportunity to display our appreciation for the fathers and father figures that mean so much to our children as the men embark in a new program called "Watch Dogs." D.O.G.S. stands for "Dads of Great Students." Chestatee is joining a national initiative for fathers to volunteer one day a year in their children's schools. We are fortunate to have dedicated volunteers, and the majority of them are women. There is some amazing research on the power of fathers within the school.

Fathers and father figures join us Tuesday, November 29th and bring the kids! We will be serving pizza and sharing information about the program. Find out why the DOGS are so important to schools like Chestatee. We hope to see you there at 6:30.

Kind Regards,

Polly Tennies

October was a HUGE SUCCESS for Chestatee PTA. It started with our Fund Run. We raised enough money to help fund the IXL Math Program and the Accelerated Reading Program. PTA is very proud that we were able to help keep both of these programs in our school for another year. Thank you to all that pledged and supported this event. Another SUCCESSFUL and FUN event was our 80th Birthday Fall Festival. We were able to raise additional money to help fund more PTA events for our school. This event was a great celebration for our 80th Birthday with all of our family and friends. Thank you to all who volunteered their time and made donations. We could not have done it without you.

Watch D.O.G.S. [pic]

Great news parents! Chestatee is implementing a WATCH D.O.G.S. (Dads Of Great Students) program this year. You may have heard about WATCH D.O.G.S. since several other schools in the county have started it in the last couple of years, or you may have seen the ABC news clip featuring the program. WATCH D.O.G.S gives students positive male role models and also helps fathers and father-figures to connect with their child’s school life as well. We are so excited to get the program underway at Chestatee this year!

We will be planning a kick-off very soon! Dads (or again, father-figures…which can include granddads, uncles, step-fathers, etc.) will be invited to come to school one night for the kick-off, and bring their children. The kick-off will be the actual sign-up date for the program. More information, including the actual kick-off date and plans for the night will be coming soon!

WATCH D.O.G.S utilizes a core group of team members to plan, organize, and get the program going. Here at Chestatee, we want our father-figures to be the leaders of this special opportunity for our students. Please contact Leigh Ann Strickland

(lstrickland@forsyth.k12.ga.us , ext. 722457), counselor for grades 3-5, if you are interested in being on our core team as soon as possible. We could still really use a dad from 3rd and 4th grades as representatives!

A Huge Thank You to everyone that volunteered their time in the Media Center Book Fair this year. We could not do it without all your help. Thank You for making it another successful event for Chestatee’s Media Center.

[pic]High Performance, Healthy School Program

Sponsored by: US Green Building Council, US Department of Education, UPS Women’s Leadership Development, Keep America Beautiful and Girl Scouts of America

Chestatee Elementary has been chosen to participate in a pilot program called “High Performance, Healthy Schools”. Next year, this program will be rolled out Statewide and then Nationwide the following year. This is an exciting opportunity for our school and its student body. We have the opportunity to be recognized as the first school in the Nation to have this program operational.

Throughout the rest of this school year, I will be working with students, teachers, and the organizations listed above to integrate the program into Chestatee. This is a student-led program - giving children the opportunity to develop and improve leadership skills while doing something positive for their school and community.

If you are interested in learning more or being on the PTA Green Committee, please contact me at CESHealthySchool@.

[pic] Chestatee Room Parents

Commitment and Collaboration are part of our PTA Values. Through parent involvement and a working relationship between parents and teachers, we can promote our children's health, well-being, and educational success. The PTA would like to thank the mom's, dads and grandparent's who volunteer as Room Parents. We understand how valuable your time is and greatly appreciate you!! There are still a few teachers in need of a Room Parent. Please ask your teachers if they are in need of a Room Parent. Children LOVE seeing their family helping out at school.
