Emile Laveder
Hello we are so sad to inform you that Emile Laveder is dead. he was the young man, in 1944, who helps the American to enter in Sospel. Remember the pic with men on broken bridge. Included, the pic of Emile during your stay in August 2009 and another one took in 2004 with Roland and I.
If you want to write few words for the family, we will be very proud to give it to them.

Oh, Patou and Roland -
I am so very sorry! I just now opened your email - I have had computer problems on two different computers for the past two days.
I certainly do remember Emile Laveder, and I am so sorry to hear that he has died. I hope it is not too late to convey our esteem and respect to his family.
Before the invasion, our troops were told that there would be friends on the ground, waiting for them. That was true, and we are still thankful for the friends such as Emile. He was one of France's heroes in its very most difficult times.
We were honored to have been touched by his life, and we are so very sorry to hear of his death.
With deep respect and admiration -

Happy Patriots' Day!
Patriots' Day (officially Patriots' Day in Massachusetts and Patriot's Day in Maine) is a civic holiday commemorating the anniversary of the Battles of Lexington and Concord, the first battles of the American Revolutionary War. It is observed in Massachusetts and Maine (once part of Massachusetts), and is a public school observance day in Wisconsin. Observances and re-enactments of these first battles of the American Revolution occur annually at Lexington Green in Lexington, Massachusetts, (around 6am) and The Old North Bridge in Concord, Massachusetts (around 9am). In the morning, a mounted reenactor with State Police escort retraces Paul Revere's ride, calling out warnings the whole way.
Since 1969, the holiday has been observed on the third Monday in April, providing a three-day long weekend. Previously, it had been designated as April 19 in observance of the anniversary of the Battles of Lexington and Concord, the first battles of the American Revolutionary War. It is also a school holiday for many local colleges and universities, both public and private.
The Boston Marathon is run on Patriots' Day every year so many Bostonians know the holiday as "Marathon Monday".
The Boston Red Sox have traditionally been scheduled to play at home in Fenway Park on Patriots' Day every year since 1959. The games were postponed due to bad weather in 1959, 1961, 1965, 1967, and 1984, and canceled in 1995 during the players' strike. Since 1968 the games have started early, in the morning, around 11:00 AM. The early start to these games usually resulted in the game ending just as the marathon is heading through Kenmore Square. However, since 2007 the marathon has started between 9:30 AM and 10:00 AM, resulting in the racers going through Kenmore towards the middle of the Red Sox game.

Hi Bob,
Mail Call News
Mail call is such a great thing. I just wanted to send a note to Karin Laeben to tell her that she is very welcome and that she should try to attend the Atlanta reunion. I sent my dad's pictures in to add to the web site and Karin found her dad in there. I am very happy for her. I knew the feeling when I found pictures of my own dad on the web site and in the 13th airborne book. It's amazing to find pictures of your dad after so many years. My dad and hers must have been friends since he was in my dad's pictures. They were taken in occupied Germany and I think that my dad, Odas had been transferred back to the 504th at the time. I'm glad that I could help someone else like I was helped by so many. The pictures were taken on a Voitslander, German camera that my dad had acquired somehow....somewhere in Europe.

Met with Ssg Ray Hess, F Co. 517th parachute Infantry (WW2) at his home in Pennsylvania. A few of us from the WW2 Airborne Historical Company presented Mr. Hess with a reproduction "jump" jacket, adorned with the various insignia he would have worn. It was a great day! Mr. Hess also served with the 82nd Airborne Division for occupation duties in Berlin, immediately post-war.

Right on!! This should be made mandatory at every school in the nation! Some schools are so far off track today, that we wonder what we have fought for! Pass this on to your school (s ) in your area. I'm going to print it out and mail to all my local schools.

Subject: California Principal's Opening Address to Students
From: Dennis Prager, principal at a high school in Redding, California, on the first day of classes in 2010: To the students and faculty of our high school: I am your new principal, and honored to be so. There is no greater calling than to teach young people.
I would like to apprise you of some important changes coming to our school.
I am making these changes because I am convinced that most of the ideas that have dominated public education in America have worked against you, against your teachers, against your parents, and against our country.
Therefore: First, this school will no longer honor race or ethnicity. I could not care less if your racial makeup is black, brown, red, yellow, or white. I could not care less if your origins are African, Latin American, Asian, or European, or if your ancestors arrived here on the Mayflower or on slave ships. The only identity I care about, the only one this school will recognize, is your individual identity -- your character, your scholarship, your humanity. And the only national identity this school will care about is American. This is an American public school, and American public schools were created to make better Americans.
If you wish to affirm an ethnic, racial, or religious identity through your school, you will have to go elsewhere. We will end all ethnicity-, race- and non-American-nationality-based celebrations.. They undermine the motto of America, one of its three central values -- E Pluribus Unum -- "from many, one."
And this school will be guided by America 's values. That includes all after-school clubs. I will not authorize clubs that divide students based on any identities. This includes race, language, religion, sexual orientation, or whatever else may become in vogue in a society divided by political correctness. Your clubs will be based on interests and passions -- not blood, ethnic, racial or other physically defined ties. Those clubs just cultivate narcissism -- an unhealthy preoccupation with the self -- while the purpose of education is to get you to think beyond yourself. So, we will have clubs that transport you to the wonders and glories of art, music, astronomy, languages you do not already speak, math, carpentry, and more. If the only extracurricular activities you can imagine being interested in are those based on ethnic or racial or sexual identity, that means that little outside of yourself really interests you.
Second, I am not interested in whether or not English is your native language. My only interest in terms of language is that you leave this school speaking and writing English as fluently as possible. The English language has united America 's citizens for more than 200 years, and it will unite us at this school. It is one of the indispensable reasons this country of immigrants has always come to be one

country. And if you leave this school without excellent English-language skills, I will have been remiss in my duty to ensure that you are prepared to compete successfully in the American job market We will learn other languages here -- it is deplorable that most Americans only speak English. But if you want classes taught in your native language rather than in English, this is not your school.
Third, because I regard learning as a sacred endeavor, everything in this school will reflect learning's elevated status. This means, among other things, that you and your teachers will dress accordingly. Many people in our society dress more formally for a meal at a nice restaurant than they do for church or school. Those people have their priorities backwards. Therefore, there will be a formal dress code at this school.
Fourth, no obscene language will be tolerated anywhere on this school's property -- whether in class, in the hallways or at athletic events. If you can't speak without using the "F-word," you can't speak. By obscene language I mean the words banned by the Federal Communications Commission plus epithets such as the "N-word," even when used by one black student to address another, or "bitch," even when addressed by a girl to a girlfriend. It is my intent that by the time you leave this school, you will be among the few of your age to distinguish instinctively between the elevated and the degraded, the holy and the obscene.
Fifth, we will end all self-esteem programs. In this school, self-esteem will be attained in only one way -- the way people attained it until the state of California decided otherwise a generation ago -- by earning it. One immediate consequence of this is that there will be only one class valedictorian, not eight.
Sixth, and last, I am reorienting the school toward academics and away from politics and propaganda. No more time will be devoted to scaring you about smoking and caffeine, or terrifying you about sexual harassment or global warming. No more semesters will be devoted to condom-wearing and teaching you to regard sexual relations as only or primarily a health issue. There will be no more attempts to convince you that you are a victim because you are not white, or not male, or not heterosexual, or not Christian. We will have failed, if any one of you graduates from this school and does not consider himself or herself inordinately lucky -- to be alive and to be an American.
Now, please stand and join me in the Pledge of Allegiance to the flag of the United States of America . As many of you do not know the words, your teachers will hand them out to you.
P.S. Dennis Prager has a radio talk show, 3 hours Monday thru Friday. 9 a.m. PST. Listen and enjoy clarity as done here.

Spam Warning
"Is me Judy from ... Hello Sweetie... My name is Judy, i am 25yrs old,..."
Hello Bob, Found this in my spam folder today and opened it because of the reference to the 517th. Looks like this gal is looking for some real men. Thought you'd want to know what she's doing with the association name. Don Gentry
Bob Chris Lindner asked me to forward this to you. She is in St.Louis this week. What do you thing is going on? Please let us know what you think.
Darrel Egner
Look at this. I think someone hacked into the 517th website.
I don't have Bob Barrett's address with me. Can you forward this to him and ask him!!
Thanks Chris Linder
Hello Bob,
I have two emails that came this morning from the address, pjudy14@ with the Subject line..."Is me Judy from "
I'm pretty sure this is Spam or a Virus but thought I'd better check with you first.
Thanks,
Kenton Floyd Immerfall Nephew of Floyd STOTT
Yes, this is spam. Somehow, this person must have hacked into someone's address book or found a copy of the MailCall list. I don't know how many of you received this, but I did and several others asked me about it. We are not the only group who have received this note from "Judy". I have seen very similar notes posted on other websites and message boards.
The note itself does not seem to contain any virus attachments, but your best bet is to hit the delete key, and Do Not Respond to the note. I hope this is just a one-time event.
