Current Event Project Mr. Pignataro DUE: ____________________8th Grade Social Studies This Project will be counted towards 20% of your grade for the 1st Marking Period. One of the major goals of a history class is to provide you with the skills to analyze what is happening today, before it becomes history. So, you must know what is happening in the world around you, on a local, city, state, national, and international level. We will kept up to date and informed by one another. Your 2 current event articles must come from either a newspaper, news magazine (TIME, Newsweek, etc…), or a respectable internet news source (CNN, Fox, CBS, etc…). Remember, an acceptable article must relate to current problems, issues, or programs that deal with our society or global matters that are appropriate for school. Entertainment or sports news is not acceptable.Article must be at least 3 paragraphs long. Choose one activity from the list below for each article. If from newspaper or magazine cut out the article and glue or tape it to a piece of paper. Label the article with the following information a. Name of newspaper b. Date of article c. Location List of Possible Activities. (Choose a different activity for each article): Draw a political cartoon about the article. Make a poster using the information in the article. You may glue the article to the poster. Make a collage about the information in the article. You may use pictures from the Internet or from magazines. Write a summary of the article. Summary must have the main idea and supporting details (Who, What, When, Where, How, Why)Create a PowerPoint presentation or Prezi about the article. Maximum 6 slides. Email the PowerPoint to me or print it our, six slides per page. Create a Smore, glogster, or goanimate (Must be detailed to understand the article)Write a letter to the editor about the article. State a question or an opinion about the article. You are a T.V. reporter. Write a script for the article you read. Remember that you only have 3 minutes to tell the information Assume the identity of a person in the article. Write a journal entry reflecting your ideas, values and daily life. Draw a picture to illustrate the article. Make sure the main idea is displayed in the illustration. (Place the picture on a separate piece of paper behind the article.)And any other creative activity you see fit to get the information of the article across.
