The course is based on the focal points recommended by the “National Council of Teachers of Mathematics” and the Common Core Standards. After the EOC, we will move onto topics needed in Algebra II such as trigonometry of all triangles, conic functions (parabolas, ellipse and hyperbola) and probability.To be successful in this course you must be prepared for class with all materials, complete all home learning assignments, ask questions when in doubt, and most of all, persevere. Grading Policy:Academic Grade will be based on quizzes, tests, classwork and home learning. STUDENTS MUST SHOW ALL WORK ON HOMEWORK, TESTS, AND QUIZZES TO RECEIVE CREDIT! All the grades will be given weights based on the following breakdown: Tests 40%Quizzes 25%Classwork/Projects 25%Home Learning 10%Students will receive an interim progress report halfway through each grading period; however, it is the students’ responsibility to keep track of their progress through the electronic grade book. Please, contact the main office to obtain password information. There will be a penalty for any LATE work. Late work will only be accepted (one) class period after its due date. Late assignments will not be eligible for any grade higher than a 79%.Home LearningHome learning will be assigned daily and posted in the classroom. These assignments are designed for students to practice the material themselves and are essential for success in this class. It is the students’ responsibility to write their homework in their agendas; DAILY. If a student is absent, he/she is responsible for getting the necessary information from a classmate or from the school’s website. All home learning assignments MUST be completed in pencil and work must be included. This class will follow the penalties for missing home learning in the JAM “Home Learning Policy.” Additionally, homework assignments will be selected at random and given grades for completion. Students are not expected to have correct answers on these assignments, but are expected to show work and put effort into every question. Ms. Cruz and Ms. Volz are available during breakfast if students have questions on home learning. We’ve created a group for star students we call “Precious Metal Society.” After every test students will have the chance to enter the society and have their names posted on the board. Students with a 97% and above will be in the Platinum level, 90-96% will be Gold level and then 80-89% will be Silver status. These students will be celebrated and joining the society should provide motivation to all students. Hall Passes:Hall passes will be issued ONLY in the event of an EMERGENCY and never during direct instruction. If you have a medical condition that requires frequent restroom breaks, your parent/guardian must provide a letter with documentation from a physician.Academic Dishonesty: Cheating is a serious offense and will not be tolerated. If a student is caught cheating, the student will receive a ZERO for the assignment in addition to a parent/teacher conference.Attendance/ Make-up Policy:All school policies governing absences and tardiness will be strictly enforced. Students will be allowed to make up missed work while being absent, provided the absence is excused. Upon returning to school; it is the students’ responsibility to provide the teacher with documentation regarding the absence and to check/request any missed work, quizzes, or tests. Absent work must be completed within a week of the absence unless arrangements are made in advance with the teachers. ................
