CONFERENCE DESCRIPTION/TARGET AUDIENCE

In Lori Overland's updated 1-Day Sensory/Motor Approach to

Feeding workshop, the complex issues surrounding feeding

disorders are discussed. The class reflects new research and

understanding of sensory processing and the impact on feeding.

Pre-feeding exercises designed to develop the underlying oral

sensory motor skills to support safe nutritive eating, and therapeutic

feeding techniques are targeted for breast, bottle, spoon, up, straw,

and solids. The techniques incorporate a variety of temperatures,

textures and tastes. Also featured is hands-on learning of proper

therapeutic techniques for spoon feeding, straw drinking and

chewing solid foods. Leave this workshop with therapeutic feeding

techniques that you can use with confidence the next day.

This course is intended for: Speech Therapists & Occupational

Therapists who work with oral-feeding issues. Special Education

Teachers & parents will also find this course of interest.

COURSE OBJECTIVES

Upon the comple on of this course, par cipants will be able to:

List at least four goals of an SLP-administered oral-motor

feeding program.

Lori specializes in dealing with the unique

needs of infants, toddlers, pre-schoolers

and school-aged children with oral

sensory- motor, feeding and oral

placement/ speech disorders. She

consults with children from all over the world, local school districts

and Birth-to-Three organiza ons. Her goal in addressing feeding and

speech challenges is to improve the quality of life for both the

children she serves and their families. She has received an award

from the Connec cut Down Syndrome Associa on for her work

within this popula on. In addi on to her private prac ce, Alphabet

Soup, Lori is a member of TalkTools Speaker's Bureau. Lori has

lectured on sensory motor feeding disorders across the United States

and interna onally.
