Try to read the book everyday so that your child becomes really familiar with it. Here are some activities you could do. The main thing is that your child is enjoying it and having fun!

Some ideas

Can you make little houses like the old lady's? Maybe you could use toilet roll insides or small boxes.

Can you make a `map' of your bedroom or house. Draw your things inside it. Go for a walk down your street and look at the different houses and buildings. Can you see the

numbers on the doors. Maybe you could use mum or dad's phone to take a picture of your house or street. Maybe you could draw a map of your street. Can you draw your favourite animals from the story. Mark make their names. You tube have the song from the story...maybe you could learn it Can you draw the story in order?

Maths

Look at the number 2. How many things in your house can you find that come in twos eg socks. An adult could help you write a list. Can you find any number 2's on anything?

A squash and a squeeze game. How any pieces of pasta can you fit in your egg cup. Have a guess first and then fill it. Take them out and put them in a line. Can you count how many?

Have a big glass or cup and a small jug or cup. How many of the small cups will fill the big cup? Pour them in and count. Maybe you can try different sized containers.

This is a good BBC website with lots of ideas for parents with babies through to children starting Reception. There is advice on learning language and child development, lots of ideas from `real' parents.
