(New) (5/1) Volunteers needed who want to pray at AC – Anyone attending AC this year is invited to be on a list of people who could be called on to pray during the plenary sessions. This is open to clergy and lay people. If you would like to be considered, please notify Julie in the District Office by May 12.

(New) (5/1) Name Tags at AC – This year we want to promote our district and make it easy for us to be recognized. We have a sticker to go on your name tag! If you do not already have a sticker on your tag when you register, please find Julie (she’ll be working at registration) to get your sticker. Then during our time in Syracuse you can easily spot someone from Niagara Frontier and get to know them. We want this to make it simpler to identify others from our district and for you to interact with them.

(New) (5/1) Need to be excused from AC2017? If you need to be excused for part or all of the 2017 Upper New York Annual Conference session, June 1-3 in Syracuse, for health, travel, work, or other reasons, you must complete and submit a form online. Be sure to click the "register" button in order for Upper New York Area Resident Bishop Mark J. Webb to receive your request.

(New) (5/1) There is an important update to the Journal Vol. I. The update is the addition of the Constitutional Amendments that will be voted on at Annual Conference this year. The pages are available to viewed or downloaded on the Conference website here. Any further updates to Journal Vol. I will be made available on this page. Copies of the constitutional amendments will also be distributed at the 2017 session of the Upper New York Annual Conference.

(New) (5/1) In previous years, Pre-Conference Briefings have been live events held on multiple days across the Conference. This year, a different approach has been taken. A Pre-Conference Briefing video has been created for you to watch any time. The hope is that an on-demand video will provide Conference members access to needed information at their convenience. You can watch the video on your own, with a small group, or as a congregation! Click here to view the video. Should you have any questions or concerns about the Annual Conference after watching the video, please email ACquestions@.

(New) (5/1) Behind the Scenes of Annual Conference blog series – Do you ever wonder what goes on behind the scenes in preparation for the Upper New York Annual Conference Session each year? Many hours and many hands are involved in the process of each and every detail of planning. Every Ministry Area plays an important part, along with the help of many volunteers before and during the Session. Click here to learn what topics we will cover in this fun series. You will be surprised to learn just how much involvement it takes to accomplish a successful Annual Conference.

Logistics Blog! When it is time to gather for the Upper New York Annual Conference, we rarely think about the details that make it happen. Can you believe that the next Annual Conference logistics kick off as early as the conclusion of the current Annual Conference? That work begins with the meetings of the Sessions Committee, which takes place multiple times throughout the year. This is where discussion of details such as logistics, registration, worship, and budgets are born. From there, many other Ministry Areas carry the work forward throughout the year. Click here to learn about the logistics involved in planning an Annual Conference on our latest blog entry in our series, "Behind the Scenes of Annual Conference."

(New) (5/1) Flood bucket and health kit collections to take place during the UNY United Methodist Center Open House – In previous years, the UNY Conference Disaster Response Teams collected flood buckets and health kits during a set time period in a parking lot across from the Oncenter at Annual Conference. However, this year the UNY Disaster Response Team will be collecting flood buckets and health kits during the UNY Conference United Methodist Center's Open House on May 31. Click here to learn more.

(New) (5/1) 2017 Annual Conference Questions and Answers – Are you prepared for Annual Conference? Each year, some details remain the same and some are different. Click here to see our Frequently Asked Questions page with answers related to this year's Annual Conference. If you do not see your question listed, please send it via email to ACquestions@.

(New) Seeking volunteer photographers for the 2017 AC – The UNY Conference Communications Ministry Area is seeking talented photography volunteers to take photos at the June 1-3 Annual Conference at the Oncenter in Syracuse. These photos may appear on our Facebook page, on our website, and/or in UNY Conference digital or print publications. For anyone interested in this great volunteer opportunity, please send an email to SteveHustedt@ with a link to their photography work.

Accessibility Committee seeking volunteers at the UNY Annual Conference – The Accessibility Committee needs volunteers to help those who need an extra set of hands during meals at the Annual Conference this year. They would like to meet for about 15 minutes before opening worship on June 1 for a quick training. Your role would be to go to a designated line during meals to hold plates for others or to fill them according to the preferences of the person and bring them to the tables. This would be a great assistance to those who have mobility issues or small children. It does not take much time, but is very much needed. Please contact Melissa (Missy) McCarthy at mmkmccarthy@ or via phone/text at 518-231-0693.

Annual Conference 2017 speakers announced – Upper New York Area Resident Bishop, Mark J. Webb has announced three featured speakers for the 2017 Upper New York Annual Conference, June 1-3 at the Oncenter in Syracuse. Dr. Kenda Creasy Dean will be the study leader; the Rev. Dotson, General Secretary of Discipleship Ministries, will serve as the speaker at the Service of Commissioning and Ordination. Click here to learn more.

(New) (4/17) Toward A Stronger Future – The Niagara Frontier District Leadership Team is looking toward the future of our district and how we might best use our gifts and resources to increase the leadership capacity within our district and our local churches. One way of gathering some of that information is through a brief survey that would guide our Leadership Team as we expand our district vision and develop some strategies to help build up the leaders throughout the district, both locally and in a larger context. The survey is short – only 8 questions, but would give us some important information as we work together to strengthen our district for ministry in the months and years ahead. Please take some time to share your ideas and input. Here is the survey.

(Update) Shoes for Service – The district office received a note about the success of this campaign during the month of March. Over 7,000 pairs of shoes were delivered to the Conference Center in Liverpool on April 1. I know some of our churches participated and I would like to thank Doug Hendershott at Indian Falls UMC for being a drop off location for our district. They will report on the actual "shoes into dollars" once the footwear is taken by truck to the Orlando, Florida warehouse for the Funds2Orgs' company we contracted with, weighed, and the reimbursement check sent to the Conference UMM.

(4/17) 12th National Gathering of United Methodist Men – Don't miss out on this once-every-four-year event that will offer 19 workshops from which attendees can choose. These groups will focus on leadership, ministry development, personal growth and spiritual development. Subjects ranging from cyber bullying, local church visioning, stress management, and small group ministries. All workshops will support men no matter their age or their role in the local church. "This is not an event to just have a good time and learn things - it will change your life and change the lives of people around you," said Gil Hanke, General Secretary of the General Commission on United Methodist Men. He continued, "This gathering challenges men to change their behavior, encouraging them to become more Christ-like in their daily lives. Men will be transformed into a more disciplined disciple." Click here to register for the event that takes place Friday-Sunday, July 7-9 in Indianapolis. For event transportation to Indianapolis and hotel accommodations contact Mark Jones at msjwelshman@ or 315-749-3700.

(Reminder) VBS “Pantry” – Each year NFCM receives requests from urban churches for funding for programming for VBS and other summer programs. As United Methodists we all have fond memories of VBS either as children participants or adult leaders and organizers. VBS is great for all of us. But it is expensive. The curricula, the projects, the posters and innumerable items that make VBS so special cost a lot. Can you help? Did your church host a VBS last summer? Do you have materials left over that you can share with an urban church? NFCM’s goal is to create a “pantry” for VBS materials. There is no sense inventing – and paying for – a new VBS “wheel” each year. NFCM will pick up and store your materials in order to cut costs for our urban churches. If you can help, please contact Beth Buckley at NFCM (716) 913-5010 or efb816@.

UMCOR Early Response Team Training and ERT Recertification class is scheduled for Saturday, May 20 at Fredonia: First UMC from 8am-4pm. UMCOR's Early Response Team (ERT) training equips United Methodists to prepare for, respond to, and recover from disasters. When disaster strikes, Early Response Teams (ERTs) fill a specific need to clean out flood-damaged homes, remove debris, place tarps on homes, and otherwise help to prevent further damage. The work provides a caring Christian presence in times of disaster. ERTs are not a first-response group of emergency workers, nor are they recovery, rebuild, or repair teams. Under very specific guidelines, ERTs assist survivors, without causing further harm or being a burden to the affected community. On May 20, two Early Response Team classes are being offered at First UMC of Fredonia. Early Response Team (ERT) training, is being taught by Tom and Linda Cooper. This basic ERT course is eight hours. For current ERT members whose UMCOR badges are expiring (badge dated before 2014), a four-hour re-certification class is being taught by Brian Greenwald. All three trainers have been approved by UMCOR and are experienced ERT responders. The cost is $25. Those interested should register quickly, as space is limited. Registration deadline is May 8. Click here for more information about the class and registration. You can also contact Linda Cooper at lindacooper47@ or Brian Greenwald at bngreenwald@.
