Unlike traditional weaving that utilizes a loom, Swedish weaving is a very simple & straightforward form of needlework and can be mastered and enjoyed by all ages. Today’s techniques are the same as those of the past: yarn or thread is woven through a piece of evenweave cloth (Monk’s cloth) utilizing a needle. The chosen design is woven into the fabric by picking up the vertical threads, called floats, on the front of the fabric so the stitching does not show on the back. Once the basic stitches are learned, the possibilities of designing a piece of fiber art are endless! The art work has expanded to include Afghans, rugs, wall hangings & more. Each student is to bring a fabric tape measure and a pair of scissors (for cutting yarn) with them to each class. All other supplies will be provided.
