Seattle University Hosts Tent City 3 – NEWS COVERAGE

November 1, 2004 – March 15, 2005: 117 stories all positive or neutral in tone

(includes syndicated* stories, broadcast repeats, etc.)

*Associated Press story ran in 32 publications nationwide including:

Newsday; The Boston Herald; The Chicago Daily Herald; and The Denver Post.

A total of 12 stories ran in Seattle’s two major dailies, five of those in Sunday editions – each of which reach more than 465,000 people.

• The Seattle Post-Intelligencer ran eight feature-length stories.

• The Seattle Times ran four feature-length stories.

Every television network in the area ran multiple stories about the hosting – all positive or neutral in nature - including 19 on-air stories the weekend Tent City 3 moved in and 13 on-air stories – on all four TV networks – when the hosting was first announced.

Work toward earning in-depth coverage put the issue of homelessness in the spotlight for area talk shows and public affairs programs. This coverage included hour-long programs with multiple guests debating housing and homelessness issues on both KCTS Connect PBS and KUOW Weekday public radio.

Nationally, the story was carried by the Associated Press and on the full-page back color cover of The Chronicle of Higher Education.
