Dear Patient:A Carotid Duplex study is a test that uses sound waves to create a moving picture of the blood flow in the main arteries of the neck that supply blood to the brain. This exam typically requires 30 minutes to complete.A Peripheral Vascular study examines the blood vessels in the one or both sides of the upper or lower extremities. This test can determine if proper blood flow is present and if there are any obstructions. Sometimes a peripheral vascular study can be used to determine if revascularization is necessary. Please allow 30 minutes per extremity examined.An Abdominal ultrasound can be done to determine if certain organs and blood vessels found in the abdominal cavity are functioning properly. This exam usually takes 30 minutes to complete.For any of these exams, please follow the directions outlined below:1. Do not use perfume, cologne, or powder.2. You may eat, drink, and take medications as normal.3. Let the technician know if you have trouble lying down.4. Bring your insurance cards.5. Tell us about any allergies you have.6. Bring a current list of medications and dosages.*****7. If you are scheduled for an abdominal ultrasound please no food, drink or gum chewing at least 4 hours prior to the test.You may discuss the results with your physician at your next appointment.
