Job description

An international third-party logistics company (freight forwarder) located in downtown Manhattan has an immediate opening for a full-time, salaried account manager in its export department.  At least two years of previous relevant logistics experience is required, as is a four-year college degree.  Foreign languages are a plus.  Salary commensurate with experience. Candidates must be highly organized, quick learners and able to work well under pressure. No calls or faxes please.

Candidate must be authorized to work in the United States.  Successful applicants will be asked to show proof that they can legally work in the US.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Manage export shipments by coordinating with steamship lines, shippers, truckers, warehouses, and all relevant parties.  Responsibilities include: arranging bookings, arranging inland transportation, tracking shipments and following up with all necessary parties throughout the entire shipping process.

• Maintain communication with customers, carriers, truckers and vendors.

• Convert cargo dimensions into proper weight and volume metrics in order to calculate the correct shipping rate.

• Follow up with existing and potential customers via phone and email.

• Maintain and negotiate carrier rates in order to provide competitive pricing.

• Provide rate quotations to new and existing customers.

DESIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

• Knowledge of international sea, air and road transportation for exports including geographical knowledge of USA and other countries.

• Knowledge of international transportation documentation including bills of lading, commercial invoices, purchase orders, packing lists, dock receipts, etc.

• Understanding of Incoterms.

• Highly organized,  quick learner, able to work well under pressure with strong time management skills.

• Excellent communication skills with the ability to adapt and work within a team environment.

• Ability to build and maintain positive business relationships.

• Ability to balance multiple duties while maintaining attention to detail.

• At least two (2) years of previous, relevant logistics experience.

• Four-year college degree.

• Foreign languages are a plus.
