10 Things

10 ThingsNew Features in Acrobat Pro X1Brand New Interface: The interface has been simplified. The most commonly used panels appear in a Tools pane on the right side of the workspace. Creating forms, commenting, security, and more, can easily be found. There is a section in Acrobat Help entitled “Where’s my Acrobat 9 tool?” that maps the Acrobat 9 menu commands and tools to the new Task Pane in Acrobat Pro X.2Office 2010 Compatibility: On the Windows platform, PDF files can be created with a single click from within Microsoft Office 2010 applications, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Publisher, and Access. Sorry Mac users, it’s for the Windows version only. If there is multimedia content in your Word or PowerPoint files, it will be converted to Flash and play directly in the PDF upon converting it to PDF.3Enhanced PDF Portfolios: More features have been added for portfolios. Using the new PDF Portfolio Wizard, you can customize new layouts, visual themes, and color palettes. Layouts and themes developed by third-party developers and designers can also be imported. And YouTube or other web content can be embedded directly into the Portfolio. 4The New Action Wizard: Acrobat X allows you to automate routine, multistep tasks into a guided Action that you can apply to a single PDF or batches of files. There are a host of default actions that come with Acrobat X, and you can edit those or create new ones.5Shared Reviews: You can manage shared reviews and solicit, collect, and aggregate team feedback in Acrobat X. And now, anyone with the free Adobe Reader can join the review process—all with access to sticky notes and highlighting and commenting tools, as well as full control and security. 6Save PDF Content as Word or Excel Documents: Saving PDF files as Word documents now has improved preservation of formatting and layouts. Adobe states “…relative positioning of tables, images, and even multi-column text is preserved, as well as page, paragraph, and font attributes”. PDF document data can also be converted to Excel file formats.7Sanitize Your Document: Sometimes PDF files need to be secured before you send them out, such as removing sensitive information that you don’t want the world to see. Things like metadata, stored form data, comments, links, actions, and more. Acrobat asks you to save a copy in its customary fashion. This is an easy way to protect your information, but also a way to lighten the file size load.8Streamlined Comments: Acrobat X makes the whole commenting process easier. Commenting tools are more accessible and easier to find, there is a “read” or “unread” indicator showing which comments you’ve read, and it’s easier to find comments using the new Filter Comments feature. All the commenting tools are now found in the Comment panel on the right side of the workspace. 9Optimized Viewing Mode: The new Reading Mode allows you to have toolbars and panels disappear, and a transparent floating toolbar appears to help you navigate PDF files more easily. It’s easy to access the viewing mode by choosing View>Read Mode or clicking the Read Mode button. This viewing mode is also available in Adobe Reader X as well as Acrobat X.10Share Via SendNow: Adobe SendNow is a new set of online services that allow you to send, share, and track large files without the headaches of email size restrictions, FTP sites, and costly overnight services. Although this feature is not an Acrobat-only feature, you can access it from within Acrobat. Also you can access it from within Acrobat, in the Share panel. ................
