Friday 26th June 2015Teenage girls living together in the ‘60s.There’s just one growing problem...Panic in the Streets are bringing a searing exploration of teenage pregnancy in the Sixties to the Fringe, under established director Catherine Livesey. As a wave of sexual liberation sweeps Sixties Britain, four pregnant teenagers are kept out of sight at a mother and baby home in the north, where religion and society dictate they must abandon their infants. Hidden away in the dark underbelly of the decade of free love, the girls bond over their passion for the music of The Ronettes as their fate unfolds. The cast of five young actresses had such success with their adaptation of Amanda Whittington’s Be My Baby in Buckinghamshire, they created Panic in the Streets to make their own journey north for the festival. The play is directed by Catherine Livesey, who has appeared three times at the Fringe and directed acclaimed productions of Top Girls (Wycombe Swan), Say Zebra (The Gate, Notting Hill) and In Praise of Love (Cirencester) among others.‘Like Philomena and The Magdalene Sisters, the play explores the moral confusion over sexual behaviour,’ says Catherine, whose acting credits include numerous roles on the London stage and in film and TV.‘But it also provokes us to question our attitudes today to teenage pregnancy and single mothers – issues which still haunt religious leaders and politicians, even in these, supposedly, more enlightened times.?‘The cast have not only immersed themselves in that era but also explored pressures they themselves face. It’s a recipe for something very powerful,’ adds Catherine. The Guardian commented of a recent revival: ‘Whittington cleverly coats the bitter pill of her characters' experience with the sugared naivety of popular girl-group routines.’‘And if I had the chance I’d never let you go…’Media Information:Director and cast are available for interviews.Production images, videos and more available at .Contact: pitstheatreuk@.Film Shorts and Promo: HYPERLINK "" Media: HYPERLINK "" panicinthestreetstheatreukTwitter: @PITStheatreUKInstagram: @ PITStheatreUK-----------------------------------------------------------Company: Panic In The Streets Theatre UKShow: Be My BabyDuration: 40 minutes6 performances:?17h30 Monday 24 August - Saturday 29 August 2015Venue: theSpace@Surgeon’s Hall, Theatre 1, Nicholson Street, ‘Royal Mile’ (Fringe Venue 53)Genre: Theatre: Drama/Comedy: Life Experience ................
