Mr. Doherty’s cause of death was acute intoxication due to the combined effects of ethanol and oxycodone, as a result of his chronic substance abuse. I find that, based on this evidence, Mr. Doherty was not killed in the line of duty. In addition, his workplace injury was not the direct and proximate cause of Mr. Doherty’s death. ................
