It is essential that the Laptop Student Agreement, the Acceptable Use Policy and the other laptop program policies be followed by your child to ensure the safe, efficient, and ethical operation of this school-owned laptop. In order for your child to have use of their assigned laptop, you must accept the following terms and responsibilities:● I have signed a billing agreement to have the Laptop User Fee ($200 for incoming 6th grade and new 7th and 8th grade students/$160 for returning students) paid with my October tuition.● I will read the Acceptable Use Policy and Middle School Laptop Student Agreement. I will discuss these documents with my child and assist him/her in abiding with both policies.● I understand that the laptop is being provided to my child for his/her educational use and that the laptop should not be used by myself or other family members.● I will supervise my child’s use of the laptop at home. I will discuss appropriate use of the Internet, will supervise my child’s use of the Internet, and will not rely solely on the Parental Controls applied to the laptop. I understand that my child should not use the laptop to visit social networking sites, such as Facebook.● I will remind my child, as necessary, to charge the laptop nightly and to bring it to school each day with a fully charged battery.● Away from school, I will ensure that the laptop is used in a location which is free from food, liquid, and debris and which provides a flat surface.● My child’s laptop will be kept in the laptop case at all times. I understand that I am responsible for repairs/replacing the laptop if it has been damaged due to insufficient protection.● I understand that my child may not deface or decorate the laptop, but may decorate the laptop case using only removable items (keychains, stickers, etc.) with my permission. ● Recognizing that I am the best judge of whether my child can responsibly and safely use the laptop away from home, I will determine if my child may use their laptop in locations other than home/school. I further understand that I am responsible for damage/loss that may occur in locations other than home/school.Revised 7/20/17 ● I understand that the laptop may be inspected by SJS staff upon request and that the laptop and its contents (whether created at home or at school) can be viewed by SJS staff when my child is signed on to the SJS network. I understand my child should not delete the browser history, cache, or cookies from the laptop, except as directed by teacher(s), and that they will be held responsible for any inappropriate use of the laptop at home or at school.● I understand that the laptop and its contents are SJS’s property. I will not remove any program/files on the laptop except for the personal documents of my child.● I will not attempt to remove asset or identification tags on the laptop’s hardware or software.● I will not attempt to repair, alter, or make additions to the laptop, its hardware or software. ● I will not change the configuration of my child’s laptop, including the network and security settings. I will not install or remove software, hardware, apps, or add-ons, except as directed by teacher(s).Loss, Theft, and Damage● My child or I will immediately report all damage and/or any other problems with the laptop to my child’s homeroom teacher.● I will report loss/theft of the laptop to SJS and the proper authorities within 24 hours.● I understand that I am responsible for all costs related to damage/loss not covered by warranty as described below. I also understand that SJS will arrange for all repairs. I further understand that SJS will not loan my child a laptop for home use if any repair/replacement charges remain unpaid for more than 30 days.● Damage: I will pay 50% of the cost (including shipping charges) of repairing the laptop assigned to my child if it is damaged, and the damage is not covered under the laptop’s warranty. The warranty does not cover damage as a result of abuse, neglect, misuse, unauthorized repair/modification, power surges, lightning, fire, and the like.● Loss/Damage Beyond Repair: If the laptop is lost, stolen or damaged beyond repair during my child’s tenure at SJS, I will pay 50% of the replacement cost (including shipping) for a new laptop. I understand I may be responsible for the entire cost relating to repairs/replacement in the case of additional occurrences.● Loss of AC Adapter: If the AC adapter is damaged or lost, I will pay the entire replacement cost (approx. $70).● Estimates: Typical repair costs – broken screen $650; spill on laptop $700-$800; broken laptop case $350.Revised 7/20/17 ................
