Instructions for obtaining a Bloomberg account and creating an initial portfolio:The Bloomberg terminal is located in Parish Library in the back left corner of the main computer pod (it is the one with 2 screens)Turn the computer on and click the Bloomberg icon on the desktopPress the red key labeled “pause break CONN DEFAULT” (above the DEL key)This will bring you to the login menu, to create an account hit the green key labeled “enter GO”Type in your name and create a password, click GO at the top of the screen to continue Type in your phone number to get the validation code, click GO at the top of the screen to continue Once you have received the code via text message type it in, click GO at the top of the screen to continue Now your account has been validated, click on your account. Add your information, then click GO at the top of the screen to complete registration This screen will display your login name Press the red key labeled “pause break CONN DEFAULT” (above the DEL key) to login into Bloomberg Once logged in type in “US” for desired country, click GO at the top of the screen to continue Select time zone, hit the “enter GO” key Now you can navigate by use the green and yellow keys on the keyboard or you can type in shortcut codes where it say “<HELP>” (Once you begin typing in this area “<HELP>” will go away and we will replaced by your typing) Type in “PRTU” to create a portfolio Name the portfolio and what type of portfolio it is (equity or fixed income) When typing in the ticker symbols always select the ones titled “US Equity” After you have selected a stock the market price of the equity will automatically be put in, add the number of shares in the next column to get the total value of the position. Once your done make sure you save the portfolio, then press the red key labeled “pause break CONN DEFAULT” to log out. If you are having trouble don’t worry the Bloomberg’s operating system is much different from Windows OS or Mac OS and it takes some getting used to.
