You will have :20 seconds to complete each simple direction.Write one simple sentence with a common noun subject (not a pronoun) and a past tense active verbAdd one adjective in front of the subject: a word that describes what the subject looks, smells, tastes, feels, or sounds like.Add one adverb before or after the verb: a word that explains how, when, or where the verb happened. If the adverb does not fit in the sentence, add the adverb above the spot where it should go.Add a prepositional phrase at the end of the current sentence: with a preposition, an object of the preposition, and adjectives for the object of the preposition if you want.Add one adjective for the object of the preposition: a word that describes what the object of the preposition looks, smells, tastes, feels, or sounds like.Add a second prepositional phrase after the first prepositional phrase, using a pronoun for the object of the preposition..Add one adjective for the object of the preposition in the second prepositional phrase. If the blanks in your sentence are numbered 1, 3, 2, for example, you need to put them in the right order for your reader to understand them better. If you have to change the order in the sentence, make sure you also change the order in your numbers at the bottom of the page, as well.Now you should have one complete sentence written, with numbers 1 - 11 at the bottom of the page. The first three should be filled out.Follow steps 1-7 again to create a second sentence.For number 4 at the bottom of the page, find a verb in sentence 2. Erase the verb, replace the word with the number 4, and write ‘verb’ next to number 4 on the bottom of the page.For number 5, you have at least 2 prepositions to choose from in the second sentence. If you have to change the order in the sentence, make sure you also change the order in your numbers at the bottom of the page, as well.Now, you should have two complete sentences written, with 6 numbers filled out at the bottom of the page. They may be out of order at the bottom of the page, but they should be in order in your sentences.Follow steps 1-7 again to create your third and final sentence.For number 7 at the bottom of the page, find one adjective from the third sentence and erase it. Replace the adjective with the number 7, and write ‘adjective’ next to number 7 at the bottom of the page.For number 8, find one noun from the third sentence and erase it. Replace the noun with the number 8, and write ‘noun’ next to number 8 at the bottom of the page.For number 9, you have at least 2 prepositions to choose from in the third sentence. Erase one of the prepositions and replace it with the number 9. Write ‘preposition’ next to number 9 on the bottom.For number 10, find an adverb from one of the three sentences. Erase the adverb, replace the adverb with the number 10, and write ‘adverb’ next to number 10 at the bottom of the page.For number 11, find a pronoun from one of the three sentences. Erase the pronoun, replace the pronoun with the number 11, and write the words ‘proper noun’ next to number 11 at the bottom of the page.(stop timing)For the last time, make sure your numbers are in the right order. If the blanks in your sentence are numbered 7, 8, 10, 9, for example, you need to put them in the right order for your reader to understand them better. If you have to change the order in the sentences, make sure you also change the order in your numbers at the bottom of the page, as well. That will make the numbers in the sentences in order, and the numbers at the bottom of the page in the wrong order.Now you should have three complete sentences written, with 10 numbers at the bottom of the page. All ten should be filled out.Rewrite the 3 sentences as one paragraph that is easy to read. Make sure the numbers are all in the right order (ascending) from 1-11 through the three sentences.Rewrite numbers 1-10 in order on the opposite page or on another piece of paper so that they can be looked at without the paragraph being seen.Have another student go down the list of 1-10 parts of speech, writing each as necessary on another piece of paper. For instance, if number 1 still says ‘verb’ then the student needs to think of a verb and write it down. Make sure the student does not see the paragraph they are supplying the words for.Have the other student rewrite your paragraph on their own piece of paper, with the words they created instead of your numbers. Read the paragraph and laugh. ................
