Dear Friends in Christ,I pray you had a blessed, fun, and restful summer. Father Schneider, our wonderful catechists, and I are looking forward to working with your families again this year and making the deposit of faith as seamless and grace-filled as possible. I pray I can be of assistance to you even more this year, now that I’ve gotten acclimated to the position. Before we begin the year, it is important that I outline what our year is going to look like. Please read this letter in full, as it contains much invaluable information for this year’s catechesis. We will once again be continuing with Family Faith Formation. Children learn the most about the faith from their parents because they see how it is lived out at home. You are a vital witness of love and faith to your children. You are trying to get your children to heaven; you are raising saints! The Church teaches: “The role of parents in education is of such importance that it is almost impossible to provide an adequate substitute” (Declaration on Christian Education, Vat II, 1965). Therefore, we will continue to try to help you be the primary educators of your children. Once again, we will use the Family of Faith book series from Sophia Institute. This year, the books explore the second part of the Catechism, which mostly focuses on the Seven Sacraments. Each family should receive one red Parent Guide and one red children’s Activity Book. These books are meant to be used at home with your children whenever works best for you. Different activities are meant for different ages and learning levels, so you can pick and choose which activities work best for your children. We will not be grading you or assigning homework; these books are merely meant to be a practical tool for your families to grow in faith together. On the schedule, you will see that we will only be meeting once a month. Please note that our meetings are not all on the first Wednesday of the month, but sometimes fall in the middle of the month. At these gatherings, we will begin at 5:30 pm in the Parish Life Center with a snack. From 5:45-6:45 pm, parents will stay for a talk from Fr. Schneider, and children will go to the classrooms with catechists. We will finish the evening no later than 7:15 pm. You are more than welcome to bring your other children to these meetings; I will have coloring pages and crayons available.I have also included in your folders a sheet of the basic Catholic prayers that your family can practice and try to have memorized by the end of the year, easy ways to incorporate the faith at home, and a sheet explaining how the Family of Faith books are organized and the “grace person” activity. Finally, throughout the year, I will have a handout at each meeting describing different activities we will host to bond as a family and with other families. I will also include information on different adult faith formation gatherings, such as Theology on Tap and women’s and men’s small group gatherings. You can call/text my cell phone (701-390-3275), email me (amanda.dukart@), or call the parish office (663-8842) to get ahold of me. My email or my cell phone are preferred, since I work from home. Please don’t hesitate to ask me questions or give me feedback. Please check your emails frequently for important reminders and updates. I am looking forward to getting to know you all better this year, and I pray the Holy Spirit works through our catechesis to bring us closer as a parish, and to Christ and His Church. God Bless, Amanda Dukart, Director of Faith Formation ................
