Geometry Pre-AP!This is the foundation for your college math courses and is very important for your continued success in your math. It is essential that you attend class prepared and keep a positive attitude. I’m glad we are starting a new school year together. Academic expectations include the following:Analyze mathematical problems actively and critically.Write effective solutions to problems.Present solutions to problems effectively.Use a graphing calculator to solve mathematical problems.Employ multiple critical and creative thinking strategies in reasoning and problem solving.Demonstrate a knowledge and appreciation of how mathematics can be used outside the mathematics classroom. Curriculum time-line:Fall Semester – Parallel and Perpendicular Lines, Relationships in Triangles, Angles and CirclesSpring Semester – Quadrilaterals, Areas, Surface Area, Volume, Statistics and ProbabilityPlease keep the following expectations in mind each day so that we may all have a great year.Be Prepared DailyBe RespectfulFollow the District and Classroom policiesGrading:30% - Tests/Projects70% - HW, quizzes, warm-upsRe-test/Test corrections for a failing test grade must be completed within the time frame given. Students may earn half of the original points lost up to a 70. Example: original test=30% (70 points lost), perfect retake will earn half of 70=35 points added to original grade of 30 for a 65%. If half of the points back exceed 70, then the student will earn 70.Late work: 10 points per day for 3 days, grade becomes a 0 after 5 daysExcused absences will follow the KISD Grade PolicyAcademic Honesty Students will be expected to:Budget Time effectively and efficiently; develop study skills.Attend tutoring regularly if needed; before or after school.Adhere to the Honor Code; do their own work and exhibit academic honesty. Students who choose to break the Honor Code will be subjected to grade and disciplinary consequences and possible expulsion from the advanced level course.Materials Needed EACH Day: 1 – Composition Book – for daily notes/vocabulary/formulas. Notebook/Graphing paper – for homework and other assignments.Pencils – for daily useGraphing Calculator or Calculator app downloaded on your phone (Calculators are available in the classroom, students are responsible for sanitizing).Protractors and rules are available in class but for sanitation purposes you may want to bring your own.All of the above items may be kept in a 3-ring binder and backpack and used for all of your classes, but must be brought to class each day.
