SUE REUSCHLEIN

Shawnee Mission Health 2016 Volunteer of the Year

It is a privilege to recognize Sue Reuschlein as our 2016 Adult Volunteer of the year.

Sue is married to David Reuschlein who retired from ECOLAB after 29 years of service. The Reuschleins have three children--James (deceased), Trinette, and Derrick; and seven grandchildren--Dylan (11), Kaleb (14), Gabriella (9), Liadan (7), Jacob (5), Charli (10), and Jaxon (4).

Sue worked as an assistant teacher for the Lenexa United Methodist Church Preschool for 22 years. She loves to travel to new places, spend time with the grandchildren, and bake.

Sue began volunteering in June 2001 and has given over 6,000 hours of service. She was selected as one of SMH's three Outstanding Adult Volunteers for 2013! Sue currently serves two afternoons each week, assisting patients and visitors in the Surgery Waiting Room and Outpatient Admitting areas. She also helps with special events such as the Living in Vitality Conference, Flu Clinics, and the Benefits Fair.

Sue's coworkers share that:

She is always upbeat, smiling, helpful, and efficient, and brightens the day with her cheerful disposition.

Sue loves to escort families and never minds long trips to get them to their destinations.

She is a lovely, kind-hearted volunteer who graciously exudes warmth and compassion in every situation, demonstrating to guests that they are the most important aspect of her job.

Sue is a great ambassador for SMMC and truly provides Much more than medicine!

When asked for her thoughts on volunteering, Sue said, "I am honored and humbled to receive the 2016 Adult Volunteer of the Year Award. Volunteering at Shawnee Mission Medical Center is an important part of my life. I feel it is my duty to share my God-given talents by giving back to my community. Every day I hope to be a blessing to someone and make his or her day a little brighter."

Congratulations, Sue!
