Leipzig est prête à accueillir la 29ème Conférence de la SISR / ISSR. Grâce au travail de Monika Wohlrab-Sahr et de Detlef Pollack, la prestigieuse Alma Mater Lipsiensis, la seconde plus ancienne université allemande (fondée en 1409), qui a vu ses classes honorées de la présence de philosophes tels que Fichte et Leibniz, Wundt et Nietzsche ou de talents musicaux comme Schumann et Wagner, de grands poètes et écrivains comme Goethe (il est à ce propos possible de passer une agréable soirée dans la brasserie où fut créé Faust) et Lessing ou, enfin, de penseurs révolutionnaires comme Thomas Müntzer et Ernst Bloch, ouvrira ses portes du 23 au 27 juillet 2007 pour un débat sur “Sécularités et Vitalités Religieuses / Secularity and Religious Vitality”.
Pour ceux qui ne la connaissent pas, la ville, sera un théâtre digne pour un rendez-vous scientifique comme le nôtre qui s’annonce riche et stimulant. Les passionnés de musique, après avoir écouté des communications scientifiques(ou encore le chœur qui sera organisé par Jim Spickard!), auront l’embarras du choix : ils pourront passer de l’église Saint Thomas où Bach excellait, au Théâtre de l’Opéra pour y admirer un ballet ou apprécier enfin l’un des nombreux spectacles qui ponctuent la période estivale. Ce sera, je l’espère, une agréable et intéressante découverte. Donc Leipzig nous attend.
Et à ce qu’il semblerait, nous y serons nombreux. Le programme, que notre Secrétaire Général a organisé, prévoit en plus des sessions plénières, la possibilité de choisir parmi 70 sessions thématiques, cinq groupes de travail, des sessions de communications libres (plus de quarante sont annoncées), le Forum des Nouveaux/Nouvelles Chercheurs/Chercheuses et enfin, des confrontations entre auteurs et critiques (cinq livres seront discutés).
Juste pour donner une idée du nombre de participants, il suffit de considérer que presque toutes les sessions ont été doublées pour arriver au chiffre record de 140 séances, ce qui veut dire plus de 450 auteurs qui traiteront de différents thèmes et qui parleront de sujets de grande actualité. Chacun de vous pourra s’en rendre compte à la lecture du programme préliminaire.
Je me limiterai donc à mettre en évidence quelques nouveautés importantes. Pour la première fois, nous arrivons, dans la phase préliminaire tout au moins, à dépasser le nombre des 450 participants potentiels. Pour la première fois, des collègues arriveront en provenance d’Erevan, du Caire, du Pakistan, de Singapore, de Corée du Sud, de Shanghai et de Tabriz. Pour la première fois, nous aurons une session consacrée aux religions en Chine. Pour la première fois encore, grâce aux collègues du Centre d’Etude sur l’Afrique Noire de Bordeaux, l’attention et l’intérêt pour les religions africaines pourront être satisfaits.
A ces nouveautés s’ajoutent d’autres raisons de satisfaction. Je désire en particulier en rappeler deux : le développement des relations avec d’autres associations régionales et internationales et la forte présence des chercheurs allemands. En premier lieu donc, vous pourrez voir les fruits de tout un travail de ces dernières années, qui a voulu renforcer les rapports avec l’ISORECEA (aire des sociologues des pays du Centre et de l’Est européen), avec l’AISLF (les sociologues de langue française), avec l’ACSRM (les chercheurs en sociologie de la religion du Mercosur/Amérique Latine) et enfin avec l’ISA RC 22 ; en effet, il y aura de nombreuses sessions organisées en collaboration entre l’une ou l’autre de ces associations et la nôtre. Ces sessions, au nombre de vingt, permettront un échange entre chercheurs de différentes parties du monde et sur des thèmes stratégiques, aussi bien d’un point de vue théorique que méthodologique. En second lieu, la présence significative des chercheurs allemands, qui était l’un des objectifs que s’était fixé depuis longtemps la SISR / ISSR. Voilà maintenant plusieurs années que nous cherchions à les convaincre de participer à nos conférences car nous sommes conscients du fait que dans les universités allemandes, la recherche sur le phénomène religieux occupe une place importante au sein du panorama des études. Nous attendons donc beaucoup de cette participation aussi bien sur le plan de la théorie sociale que sur celui des modèles d’analyse empirique. L’opération, qui avait été accomplie dans un passé récent avec l’Espagne (dont la participation augmente à Leipzig) et qui a débuté avec les pays du Centre et de l’Est de l’Europe d’une part et avec l’Amérique Latine de l’autre, a donné des résultats positifs. Il est donc possible d’imaginer que la même politique puisse porter ses fruits pour d’autres réalités comme l’Inde (je profite de cette occasion pour remercier Jay Demerath qui a proposé une intéressante session sur la vitalité religieuse au sein de la société indienne) ou la Chine et la Corée du Sud (en interpelant par exemple l’Association for the Sociology of Religion, qui depuis des années se consacre au nouveau marché des fois chinoises).
Le programme à la carte est donc prêt et alléchant et j’espère que nous serons nombreux à en profiter. Je ne peux que vous recommander la ponctualité dans le paiement de votre cotisation et pour l’inscription à la conférence de manière à faciliter le travail de Karel Dobbelaere, notre Secrétaire Général et de Jean-Pierre Hiernaux, notre Trésorier. Tout ce qu’ils font est le fruit de leur intelligence, de leur savoir-faire et surtout de leur disponibilité entièrement bénévole : le respect par conséquent des temps et des modes de fonctionnement de la SISR / ISSR facilite leur tâche qui, comme vous pouvez l’imaginer, n’est pas si simple surtout quand il s’agit de la bonne réussite de nos conférences internationales.
Je voudrais, pour terminer, saluer les nouveaux chercheurs qui animeront le Forum créé de leurs mains. Il s’agit d’une réalité désormais vitale qui mérite attention. Cette année sera marquée d’une petite nouveauté comme je l’avais annoncé. Pour honorer la mémoire d’Yves Lambert, un chercheur que nous avons tous pu apprécier et l’un des membres les plus fidèles de notre association (nous nous rappelons de sa présence lors de la Conférence de Turin, attentif, curieux, vital, courageux, malgré tout), j’ai demandé à SAGE, l’éditeur de Social Compass, d’offrir un abonnement gratuit à l’auteur de la meilleure communication présentée par un/une jeune chercheur/euse (le Comité d’édition des actes se chargera de communiquer le nom du lauréat). Il ne s’agit que d’un petit signe pour conserver la mémoire d’Yves. Un signe que rendra possible SAGE, avec qui nous avons depuis longtemps un excellent rapport de coopération et de respect (il est d’ailleurs important, à ce propos, que nos membres sachent que la maison d’édition offre des abonnements gratuits à Social Compass aux bibliothèques des pays d’Amérique Latine et des pays de l’Europe Centrale et de l’Est), et que je remercie ici très sincèrement.

Ce projet international de recherche entend analyser les réactions de l’Église catholique face aux principaux défis éthiques, politiques et sociaux qui se posent dans différents pays européens occidentaux de tradition catholique. Il s’agit d’une recherche comparative entre la Belgique, l’Espagne, la France, l’Italie et le Portugal. Un certain nombre de défis seront retenus pour chaque pays, en vue d’analyser les réactions provoquées à l’intérieur de l’Église par ces nouveaux challenges. . Cette recherche est développée par le Groupe Européen de Recherche Interdisciplinaire sur le Changement Religieux (GERICR) qui a été fondé en septembre 2006, lors d’une réunion tenue à l’Université Complutense (Madrid)
This international project aims to investigate how the Catholic Church reacts to ethic, social, and political challenges at the end of the XX century in Western European Countries with a Catholic tradition. This is a comparative research between Belgium, France, Italy, Portugal and Spain. A number of challenges will be selected for each country and the different reactions and positions developed inside the Church by these new challenges will be analysed. The research is going to be developed by the Groupe Européen de Recherche Interdisciplinaire sur le Changement Religieux (GERICR). This Group has been founded in September 2006, in a meeting held at the Complutense University (Madrid)
