To the users of this directory:

The purpose of this directory is to provide information to the aeronautical community for planning purposes when operating to and from hospital heliports in the state of Illinois. This directory is not intended to be relied upon as a completely accurate depiction of existing heliport conditions.

All hospital heliports in Illinois are classified as Restricted Landing Areas and are for private use only. Prior permission to operate from the heliport should be obtained from the hospital administration.

Everyone involved in the production of this document has strived to ensure that the information contained within is accurate. However, it is always possible that errors have been made. Also, conditions at a heliport can change at any time. As changes occur, they will be placed on the Aeronautics web site. Check for updated listings. Users should obtain the latest information from all available sources prior to flight.

Remember, the pilot in command is ultimately responsible for the safety of the flight. That includes obtaining the most accurate information possible. This directory alone will not fulfill that obligation.

Please note: All PL Tones are listed according to their frequency in Hertz. For convenience, the corresponding Wolfsburg code has also been listed (W).

Dedication:

This Hospital Heliport Directory is dedicated to the memory of S. Duane Moore. Duane's leadership and vision in the late 60s and early 70s is evident today in the state if Illinois leading the nation with an unrivaled network of hospital heliports. Duane's pioneering spirit and dedication to EMS use of helicopters is also apparent in the level of efficiency and safety the industry enjoys today.

Duane served as Chief Pilot for IDOT ? Division of Aeronautics for more than 17 years. During that time he developed the first civilian use of helicopters for EMS operations in the state of Illinois, and he pioneered many of the advancements we take for granted today. Duane's belief was that every hospital should have a heliport; and, developing a network of trauma centers with heliports at a reasonable expense was his mission.

Peers and industry leaders throughout the world recognized Duane for his dedication. He served on the board of directors and chaired several committees for the Helicopter Association International and the National Business Aircraft Association. Duane was awarded the Sikorski Helicopter Rescue Awards, the FAA Distinguished Service Award, the HAI Community Service Award, IDOT Employee of the Year, and, in 1991, was inducted into the Illinois Aviation Hall of Fame.

Sadly, Duane passed away in May of 1991. His memory lives on and is evident today in the EMS helicopter and heliport industry.
