Stereotype Power-Point Project
Stereotype Power-Point Project
A stereotype is an exaggerated belief associated with a category. It’s a function to justify our conduct in relation to that category. Stereotypes may affect ones actions and can affect people’s lives on a daily basis. Pick one of the topics below that deal with stereotypes and create a power-point presentation explaining your topic. Be prepared to give an oral presentation in class.
Racism, ageism, weightism, disablism, sexism, anti-semitism, genderism, sectarianism, anti-homosexuality (you may choose another topic if you would like)
Use this information below to give you a head start on your power-point:
• What is it? (define)
• Its history and its causes
• Give an example
• Explain who is affected by it
• Explain how it affects people’s lives
• Are there any famous media related stories that are provided as an example of your stereotype?
• How is perception related to your topic?
• How is stereotyping related to your topic?
• How do people get past stereotyping when it comes to your topic?
• Are there any powerful groups that have been created whom are either for or against your topic?
• Explain what discrimination is.
• Display a visual of the stereotype/perception in action (newspaper article, magazine, commercial etc)
With your power-point make sure that you include the following:
1. Relevant Visual aids
2. Summarized historical information from your paper
3. Citation in your power-point
4. Work Cited Page (APA format)
Each of you will be graded individually so you need to pull your own weight in this project. Here is a copy of the rubric that you will be graded off of:
