“To the valiant of heart, nothing is impossible.”

A staple in the New York region and an emerging program on the

national stage, the Manhattanville College Athletic Department continues

to bolster its reputation as a program on the rise in all areas: athletic

achievement, academic success and overall participation.

A program-record 305 Valiant student-athletes (nearly 20 percent of

the student body) took part in intercollegiate athletics during the 200809 season, showcasing the continued and rapid growth of athletics at

Manhattanville. Following the successful integration of the men¡¯s and

women¡¯s indoor and outdoor track teams last season, the program has

expanded to a record 21 intercollegiate teams ¨C including seven new

teams established in the last two years alone.

And teams at Manhattanville do not just compete, they win. Three

Valiant squads (men¡¯s basketball, baseball and men¡¯s tennis) earned

Freedom Conference regular-season championships in 2008-09 and

both the men¡¯s and women¡¯s hockey teams spent much of the year with

national rankings. Sixteen of 21 Valiant teams earned berths in their

respective conference tournaments last year, including four conference

championship game appearances. In all, Manhattanville teams posted

an impressive .548 winning percentage (184-151-6) last season, with

two Valiants teams also setting new program records for wins in a single

season.

On an individual level, many Valiant student-athletes were honored

in 2008-09 as well. Men¡¯s hockey forward Chris Trafford and women¡¯s

hockey center Holly Nonis became the 15th and 16th Valiants to earn

All-American honors following the season, while the pair were two of

four players to be named conference Player of the Year. Manhattanville

athletes also earned three conference Rookie of the Year awards and 31

All-Conference honors. In the last 10 years, at least 30 former Valiants

have went on to play professionally either domestically or overseas.

But at Manhattanville, athletics is only one part of becoming a wellrounded student-athlete. In the classroom, Valiant athletes consistently

achieve higher grade-point averages than the student body as a whole,

as evidenced by the 3.202 Athletic Department GPA for the Spring 2009

semester. Every Valiant team recorded a team GPA of 3.000 or higher

for the spring term, while a program-record 89 student-athletes were

named Academic All-Conference honorees.

Community service also continues to play a vital role in the studentathlete experience at Manhattanville, as each team performs hundreds

of community service hours each year. In addition to active involvement

with many local sports teams and youth organizations both on and off

campus, Valiant teams sponsor events such as the women¡¯s basketball

¡°Pink Zone¡± night and the women¡¯s hockey ¡°Think Pink¡± event to promote

cancer awareness. As a result of these and other efforts, the school

was the recipient of two Jostens/NADIIIAA Community Service Awards

in 2008-09, one of only 13 institutions honored and the only school to

receive two awards. The service aspect of the Manhattanville studentathlete experience plays a large role in helping Valiant athletes fulfill the

college¡¯s mission of educating ethically and socially responsible leaders

for the global community.

Coaching Staff

Head Coach Amber Radomski

Second Season ? American International ¡¯03

Amber Radomski is back for her second season as head coach of the

Manhattanville softball program in 2010, looking to return the Valiants to their position

of conference and regional prominence.

In her first season as a collegiate head coach, Radomski led the Valiants to a

19-19 record in 2009, the second-most wins by a first-year coach in program history

and the fifth-highest single-season win total at Manhattanville. Two of her players,

senior Nicole Oliva and sophomore Samantha Howe, were named to the All-Freedom

Conference team following the season as the Valiants just missed a berth in the

Freedom Conference Tournament with a 7-9 conference mark.

Radomski and her Valiant team proved to be a very resilient squad in 2009, as

Manhattanville recorded five walk-off wins at Manhattanville Field and also won two more games in its final

at-bat on the home field.

A 2003 graduate of American International College in Springfield, Mass., Radomski brings a wealth of coaching

and playing experience to Purchase. From 2004-2008, she served as an assistant coach at Division II American

International, where she assisted in the teaching of fundamentals and strategies and also worked with pitchers

and catchers to call pitches during games. In addition, Radomski played a role in the Yellow Jackets¡¯ recruiting

efforts and also helped to plan practices.

Prior to her coaching work at American International, Radomski served as a Graduate Associate Softball Coach

at Division III Springfield College, working exclusively with the team¡¯s pitchers and catchers on mechanics and

game strategy.

During her four-year collegiate playing career at American International, Radomski was named to the

Northeast-10 All-Conference first team as a senior and was a two-time All-NEISCA team honoree in 2001 and

2003. As a senior, she helped the team to the Northeast-10 Conference Tournament Championship and a berth

in the NCAA Tournament by leading the Yellow Jackets with a .326 batting average and 27 runs batted in while

also posting a 14-9 record and a 2.13 ERA in the circle.

In her four seasons in an AIC uniform, Radomski appeared in 201 career games for the Yellow Jackets and registered a .289 batting average at the plate. Also a team

leader in the circle, Radomski went 36-26 with a 2.34 ERA and 171 strikeouts in 78 career appearances.

After graduation, Radomski spent two summers in Italy playing softball professionally for

Impresa Tarabuso of the A1-A2 divisions in 2004 and 2005. Stateside, she has also spent the last

four seasons playing with the 28-time national champion Stratford Brackettes of the Women¡¯s

Major Fast Pitch League.

Radomski is a native of Easton, Conn., and still resides in her hometown.

Assistant Coach Sara Puglisi

First Season ? American International ¡¯09

Sara Puglisi enters her first year as an assistant coach with the Manhattanville softball team in 2010 and will assist second-year head coach

Amber Radomski in all facets of the Valiant program.

Puglisi was a four-year varsity letterwinner on the softball field for Division II American International College, where she started 64 of her

83 career appearances in the circle. In four seasons with the Yellow Jackets, she compiled 26 wins and struck out 261 batters while posting a

3.14 ERA and was named team captain her senior year. Puglisi was also the recipient of the College¡¯s Alumnae Award, which is presented to a

female student-athlete who exhibits outstanding qualities of leadership, scholarship and athletic ability as well as a superior attitude in regards

to cooperation and overall contribution to her team.

Puglisi had her best statistical season for AIC as a freshman, appearing in 23 games and tossing a career-high 107.0 innings in a Yellow

Jacket jersey. She struck out a career-best 103 batters with a 2.49 ERA in that first collegiate season, including posting a 7-1 mark in her final

11 appearances of the year.

Puglisi earned her bachelor¡¯s degree in education from American International College in May 2009 and is currently pursuing her master¡¯s degree in education at

Manhattanville.

A native of Amsterdam, N.Y., Puglisi currently resides in Purchase, N.Y.
