10 April 2018MEMORANDUM FOR RECORD:SUBJECT: Job Description for WRNMMC Chief of Graduate Medical and Dental EducationThe Chief of Graduate Medical and Dental Education (GME/GDE) is responsible for the administration, oversight, and support of over 70 GME, GDE, and long-term allied health education training programs (LTHET) based at WRNMMC, encompassing nearly 700 trainees in the Army, Navy and Air Force. The Chief of GME/GDE is also responsible for leadership and oversight of the Darnall Medical Library, which is the main library resource center housed at WRNMMC. The Department of GME falls under the Directorate for Education, Training, and Research (DETR). Responsibilities of the Chief of GME/GDE include:Serve as the primary subject matter expert on all aspects of GME, GDE, and allied health for the hospital commandUnderstand all aspects of GME, GDE, and allied health accreditation requirements and tri-service military readiness/command training standards in order to effectively insure full accreditation of programs and readiness of traineesDevelop and update policies and procedures for all aspects of GME, GDE, and allied health education as they pertain to trainees assigned at WRNMMCPlan, develop, and execute GME-wide educational programs and curricula in response to current and evolving needs/requirements of accrediting bodies, MHS, military services, and DoDWork with program directors (PD’s) to ensure adequate resources to meet educational, military, and administrative needs of all trainees and programsWork alongside National Capital Consortium (NCC) GME leadership in order to monitor compliance with accreditation requirements, and to help develop policies and procedures NCC-wideServe as member of NCC Board of Directors (non-voting)Advise and communicate with WRNMMC Army Troop Command, Navy Element, and 11th Medical Group (AF) to insure readiness standards and service requirements of all trainees are met/exceeded while minimizing impact to clinical trainingOversee graduate level training records for all WRNMMC-based trainees and respond to needs of all 3 services regarding data calls, credentials preparation, licensing requirements, training summaries, and training verificationsProvide year-round scheduling and oversight of all 4th year medical student clinical rotations performed at WRNMMCProvide year-round scheduling and oversight for all clinical observership requests at WRNMMC through the Student Clinical Observer Opportunities Program (SCOOP)Oversee execution, sustainment, and renewal of all Training Affiliation Agreements (TAA’s) involving medical, allied health, and nursing student experiences performed at WRNMMCCoordinate and oversee all institutional GME recruitment efforts both at WRNMMC and extramurallyProvide planning and logistical support for all recurring organization-wide GME activities to include new resident orientation, operational medicine day for trainees transitioning to operational tours, GME open house, GME selection board, faculty development workshops, chief resident leadership seminars, leadership transition day for GME graduates, and GME graduation ceremonyRepresent WRNMMC GME to external agencies and command authorities, eg. Army, Navy, and AF GME, USUHS, AMEDD, OTSG, BUMED, AFMSOversee GME administrative function through leadership and supervision of 6 civilian personnel and 2 military (service-specific) assistant chiefsOversee Darnall Medical Library administrative function through leadership and supervision of 9 library staff and appointed medical director (ancillary function of Navy Assistant GME Chief)Provide educational/career counseling and mentorship to PD’s, faculty, and trainees as neededChair the following committees:Housestaff CouncilACGME CLER Executive CommitteeProfessional Education and Training Committee (PETC—allied health)PETC Academic Hearing Subcommittee (ad hoc)Troop Command/GME Committee (company commanders’ meeting)Represent WRNMMC GME in following committeesDETR Leadership MeetingNCC GMEC MeetingExecutive Committee of the Medical Staff (ECOMS)Quality CouncilProvider Wellness CommitteePatient Care Assessment CommitteeTransitional Year Internship PEC MeetingNCC Academic Hearings SubcommitteeNCC Institional Oversight SubcommitteeNCC Board of Directors MeetingArmy DME Teleconference MeetingMaintain clinical skills in designated specialty and remain academically productive in a manner consistent with academic pathway (eg. clinical educator, clinical researcher, etc.) in order to maintain credibility as academic leader ................
